Haven't seen anyone suggest the ignition switch, could also be a possible cause.

Sure......there are many possible causes, but the most known/common causes are:
    1. Big blue connector (and other (earth-) connectors
    2. stator failure; ad as a result of it ...burned connectors or wiring and a Regulator that does'n't work correctly
That's why CandyRedRC46 recomments checking the voltage (I guess).
    3. kill switch
    3. jiffy switch
    4. other.................fuse box for example

    As far as I know........

I have lost basically every important connection on my bike due to it burning up. But I have never lost the ignition switch or kill switch. I thought I might have, but it turned out to be the connection in between the ignition key switch and the main harness had melted.

Thanks for all your replies folks!

I remember cleaning a blue connector, but I know this is not the big blue one, so I will take off the fairings and clean this big blue connector.

I went on 2 other rides this week and the issue only reproduced once. It always happens after 30-40 minutes of riding, and when I turn off the bike and let it rest for 5 minutes, it won't do it again within the next 15 minutes. I am kinda unsafe about going on long rides because of this issue, so this is why I can't give you guys more details.

As I said, I will try to clean the big blue connector and see what it does.

I also checked the side stand and it is stable. I doubt this would be the issue, since it also occured while the bike was on neutral and the clutch completely held.

Last thing, the stator has been changed during the last year, as the previous owner told me.

I don't see any mention above about the Recall notice that was issued on 2002 to 2005 models. I know it was in the US, not sure about other countries. Does anyone from CanadaCanuckstein know?

Not saying this is the issue, but with what appears to be some random issue, it never hurts to check and see if the recall was done (assuming it applies out of the US as well).

hmmm....looks like a Regulator problem, allthough that's more common on the 750 and 800fi versions.

To be sure you have to check charging while driving for 30-40 minutes.
That can be done with a multimeter connected to the battery and the meter in a tankbag (or how do you call it in English ?) or somehow fixed in sight on the tank or dash.

Or maybe you can borrow a regulator for a testing-period.....?

    What am I thinking ??
Maybe the regulator doesn't work correct at higher temperatures.......that could explain the falure after 30-40minutes. Regulators often tent to work correctly.....untill they get hot....
Many times defect stators ruined the Regulator too. Without noticing it at first sight. Since you told us that de stator is changed.......
    It wouldn't surprise me !!!
This VTEC has had stator-problems you know.....maybe it left some damage......: check wiring, connectors and regulator .....
There is a problem....you only have to find it ;-) No poblem that can't be fixed imho.

I hope you understand what I mean....

But first: clean the BIG BLUE connector and check for melted wiring or connectors.....

    good luck !

I understand your way of thinking, but the battery keeps a full charge, even when the issue occurs, and the way the issue occurs is exactly as if I would put the killswitch off and then back on while riding, so the engine push starts itself.

Sounds exactly like when my big blue connector went out.

What do you mean by your big big connector? which connector is this?

And about the recall, I checked, and, unfortunately, there has been no recall issued in Canada.

If the fuel pump doesn't prime after putting the kills switch to on, it's probably worth cleaning up the contacts in the kill switch. Just be careful not to lose any of the small pieces inside.

My bike did this also. Not as often as described, but after about the 4th time I found the dreaded melted 30 amp fuse. I beefed up the wiring, and no problems. Worth a look. Takes 5 minutes.

The big blue connector didn't seem like it was burned, but it was very hard to disconnect.

I will try to clean the killswitch, does anyone have an idea of what the problem could also be?

Have you had a look at the connector between the stator and rec/reg, I doubt this would be the problem but it needs checking anyway BEFORE it takes your charging system completely out, and it will

    Great news folks!!

I just came back from a ride, hell of a ride.... the bike kept shutting down every second on the highway, so I stopped at the nearest ramp and shut it down for good. Then, after waiting 5 minutes, I tried firing it up and the killswitch wouldn't turn on, so I flipped the side stand and the killswitch instantly turned on.

I then took a look at the side stand and its sensor and there is so much grease in there!! It is horrible.

I think I will dismount the whole side stand assembly and its sensor and I will clean it very well and inspect the wires, then I'll come back and tell you how it's been.

Sorry for my double reply, but you guys might want to look at what I've found.

Both wires are damaged and the area is clearly wet and dirty.

So I fixed the wires, did a clean job, I will try it during the week and I'll keep you updated.

I am highly convinced this was the issue, so I am pretty happy right now, thanks to all of you guys who replied and helped! :)
