Hello to all the forum member.Been trolling for a long time and finally joined.I'am a senior involved with two wheels since my early teens. This is my first post/question to the members knowledge because I'm puzzled by this little issue. 84 vf 1000f not running.Took the carbs apart to clean them and to my surprise no pilot screws.Order 3 sets only 1 is a vacuum port.Recd the pilot screw try to thread them in their bore and nothing. The bore are smooth(thread-less) Do I missing something?

History of the bike and some pics, and you should get some help. Highly likely you are looking in the wrong place on some dirty carbs.

If pilot screws have never been adjusted, then they are hiding behind metal plugs, located down near seam for bowls, near the intake throats. Google how to remove plugs.

Thanks for the replies.Paid $250 for a non running interceptor god knows how long she sitting and a seize eng, took care of engine, next remove carbs to service them and while taking them apart notice no plug ,no pilot screws,no springs,no O rings nada.So ordered 3 sets (partzilla).Week later got the set happy to get that sucker fire up.Pilot goes in start turning clockwise turn and turn and turn flip carb and pilot&spring came out look into the bore and guess what no THREADS.I found that issue not to be the norm. Reason for posting to see if a member has come across this situation and how it was solved.V65 sabres are the same configuration I had a couple of those.

Look on the opposite side of the carb in the same location. If there is a cap covering that opening, the pilot screws have never been adjusted (or removed) since new.

It really sounds like you are just on the wrong side. But who knows, people do stupid shit all the time, maybe somebody drilled something out they shouldn't have.

I know people do estrange things.Quite sure this is factory made.Maybe I'm wrong who knows. Also know how carb work is not my first but is the first time I came across this trivia. I'm 61.And gets better 1 of the carb s has the bore for the pilot bore but not an air inlet.Thank for diagram but thru the years have accumulated quite a few service manuals.By no means an expert.Next time I stop by the shed will take pictures.

I may have a couple VF carb bodies in the garage if you need pics, will need to dig them out. Also got my VF1KR carbs sitting on the bench and can take some pics if needed, basically the same carb body.

Diagrams were from my 83 750 manual, I assumed the VF1000 carbs would be similar. Had mine off and on again today, as I am having a problem getting them to settle down.

Thanks,Allyance ,Cutter and vfrcpn.Took some pict. today but I'm having a little situation trying to upload them.Maybe I got wrong pilot or my carbs are from another planet.#1 has the bore and the air inlet which is correct #2 bore but no air inlet abnormal.#3 vacuum port/pipe.#4 bore and air inlet. To me that means that#1 and #4 have usable pilot screws adjustment which also mean that I bought 1 too many. Ill figure something out, cause need to run that eng otherwise my winter project will end up in cl for cheap.

If you look at your first picture, the carb on the right. you will notice pilot screw access is just above throat and just below seam for bowl. I believe when these carbs were cast, they allowed for the pilot screws to be accessible form either side, depending on the carb location. What you may be looking at with the unthreaded hole is the opposite side from the pilot screw, notice how the casting goes all the way across. Hard to tell since carbs have been separated.
