    RESURRECTION!

Someone suggested I post up on a hobby I was working on and thought I would use our search engine to see if a similar thread had been started Low and behold, the Stuke with two others had done so. I will still post up my project but thought I should report here first.

Woodwortking has been a serious hobby for me since around 1992. Wife wanted a book case and took me out to a store to show me one for about $150.00 that looked like it had been finished by a 12 year old. Told her to give me the $150. and I would build her one that was finished far better. As I look over my left shoulder, that book case is still standing strong as ever.

Everyone I know took woodworking ins school shops except me. I wanted to but things never lined up that way. Took plastic, graphic arts, photography, drafting, metal works. You name it. Silk screening, and electronics. Took electrical for 2 hours a day every day for three years and was qualified as a 1 year apprentice electrician. Everything but wood.

So this was my chance albeit a little further along my life than what I had hoped. I think I was about 40 years old by this time. I had a 1/4" collet router, a Black and Decker circular saw I bought at a garage sale and found out was obsolete in 1976 when I tried to order parts for it. I figured that book case has by now cost me over $10,000.00 in tools and equipment. Have a fairly well appointed woodworking shop in my garage which my bike shares. I am self taught and have made lots of modifications from earlier intentions, but all have been fun. Most of my plans are pictures from Sears catalog and many cutouts from flyers. Some plans are in my head and change several times before the project is finished. I don't make mistakes. I have alternative methods of attaining an end result. In short, I have come to a point that I have become competent making a fucking mess in may garage and have developed the fine art of pissing off the wife for bringing my art into the kitchen floor. But I do love woodworking.

I used to mountain bike a lot. Prior to my first retirement, my primary mode of transportation to and from work year round for about 17 years was a bicycle. Had a Rocky Mountain full suspension bike when suspension first came out. Was quite the bike for its time but you can get far better now for far less cash. Used to enjoy going to the gym on a regular basis. Used to ride there to take care of the cardio, then do very light weight training and tonnes of reps, paying strict attention to technique. This was for rehab at first but I found I really enjoyed that. ALl that stopped when a very expensive bike was stolen from me which was chained up outside a very busy city owned facility, only about 100 feet from the front door in the mid morning hours. No one saw a thing, yet the asshole thief had to spend about 20-30 minutes nibbling away through the cable with wire cutters to get the bike. The cut cable was left behind. That ended that. Still ride a bit but not nearly as much as I used to. Collect $500. insurance on a $3500. bike. Paid the insurance company far more than that in the following four years due to increased rates. Replaced the bike with the same make and model but have never been back to the gym.

Like to golf. Usually golf about 3 or 4 over par....each hole. Always do well on the 19th. But i do enjoy the game. Consider myself one of the world's best conservationists when it comes to fishing. Have the gear. Look the part, but fish like someone who is at home riding a camel. After a few years of spending hundreds of bucks yearly maintaining a fishing boat in Campbell River BC, the Salmon Capital of the world, I sold that shit and went on a 10 day trip to Japan. Found a more productive and far less expensive fishing hole. Called the fish market.

This past summer I started hiking in a small way. I am old now so have to work my way up to longer more strenuous hikes. The son and I went on a four hour hike up a local mountain. I should have stopped about 1/3 the way up but continued on. And was glad I did. The view was breathtaking up there. But two days later, it began. I could not walk, climb stairs breath or fart for a few days after that. Hiking poles are on my wish list for Christmas. Looking forward to spring and summer to do more of that.

Well I just started a new hobby-target shooting, got my Taurus working. The club had me watch a info video-safety course, then I blasted away- I counted 110 shell's. I brought my own targets. my large compact could hit well at 9 yds. I rented the whole indoor range-no one else there but me, that's actually a plus. I think I actually did quite good. Zero jams with 2 12 mags and 2 military grade 20 mags. :nelson: P1010265.jpg P1010264.jpg My other hobby is of course Ceasar the Grand champion Himalayan-Persian Flame point Huge male putty cat. :pound: Notice-I got a Bulls eye!

I forgot about that. Love my yard work too. A short story. My wife had a rash on her hand. A good friend of ours who is First Nations (you call them American Indians) told her to go out to the lawn and pick a certain weed out of the lawn and rub it in the rash. The juices from the plant have medicinal properties. Wife said: "Randy doesn't have any weeds in his lawn." in a kinda matter if fact way. I was sort of embarrassed.

Wow, talk about back from the dead.. What's old again is new.. a lot of that going around. H, I've been here for over 11 years..11 years Eeek! Funny how I look back at what was of interests then, and then now. Way to go Randy, IIR I was one of those that asked that way back when. Maybe. shiet I'm getting old, my memory escapes me, sounds very familiar though. That and my bones creek. muscles ache, mornings take a bit longer to get the engine running, but damn if I'll give up riding, really have missed it like I use too. but the head games of a serous get off puts a few things into perspective. guess a couple get offs will do that to ya. My other interests out of necessity is mowing the yard.. hell it's a performance related zero turn rider, it's a hoot, flying helicopter is a hoot too, multiple interests in any thing that fly's by remote. love those drones. Of coarse there's sport cars. Toyota MR2 is another hoot, Grand kids keep me young, Golf when I can, hike and bike and exercise is a must now if I want to keep moving. Kinda have an itch to bring back my love of guns, a friend has peek my interests in long range sharp shooting..aka sniper. Hmm what else? I know I'm missing a few more.

Winter what is that ???? He He
what do you mean not being able to ride all year ????? ha ha ha

I fly Quadcopters with a go pro attached on a gimbal (drones to the media brainwashed)

the blue gimbal on this second one comes off the quadcopter and mounts straight to a go-pro suction mount and works just fine on the tank of the VFR giving a fully stabilized recording of the ride

This little one is used for First person view racing close proximity with a set of video goggles and is only 280mm diagonally from motor to motor

when I am not riding or working on the bike or house or looking for employment to fund it all

You have something like 9 ski resorts in Australia don't you? I heard someone say that to me and remember thinking the dood was on speed or something. Then found out the truth.

I ride year round. But I don't think it is as pleasant as your riding. Then again, it is never too hot for me to ride either. Getting caught in the snow on the bike is a bitch though. Especially if it builds up on the road and sticks. Been there, done that, and dumped the bike.

I hear ya Randy I lived in NZ for 22 years and rode everyday much like I do now rain hail shine or snow

Where I am in Brisbane is close to the subtropical parts of Australia so our summer is the wetter season usually and the temps range from 17°C overnight to high 30 to low 40°c during the day time the humidity is the killer in the summer

Currently it is 28°c in the shade outside the pool is 26°C at 15.20hrs forecast for 17°C overnight with 31° C forecast for tomorrow

In the winter it gets down to 0°C maybe overnight for a month to 6 weeks and is still around 17-20 ish °C during the day most days

South Australia some parts of NSW and Tasmania get snow and bloody cold antarctic winds in the winter with higher rainfall
    That's why I don't live there

Ride street, dirt, and track as much as possible. Lots of fishing, mostly salt. Scuba dive and spear fish. Water ski. Shoot various weapons monthly. Hunt once or twice a year. Mountain climb and hike every summer for 2-3 weeks. Snow ski in the spring. Surf in the winter or when a nice hurricane brushes by. Canoe and Kayak local rivers. Astronomy in the winters when the bugs are gone. Mountain bike 2-3 times a week, gym or home work out the other days. I still travel quite a bit and try to hike and rent bikes wherever I go. Tennis, racketball, Frisbee and golf once in a while. Use to do some wood work, made things like a bar glass rack, spice rack ect.

Last year from around January through May, most days after work and weekends I worked to dramatically expand my first book (for guitarists.) This second edition finally had everything in it that I wanted. Recently, with constant rain, riding weekends are falling off the map and this got me back on track to finish book two. It is the same content as book one with the theory modified for a bassist. Fortunately or unfortunately (I love working on it) that will get done very fast because most of the book is replicated and the changes are minimal. I suspect in just a couple of weeks from now I will be a little sad as this gets done and I will not have a current book project.

I have written the story for a children's book, however the costs are going to be extremely high for my graphic artist and the needed illustrator. So I cannot just plow ahead with it like I would prefer. It is going to have to be budgeted over a longer term.

Throughout the years I have played Team Fortress 2 on the weekends to just completely zone out. I have loved TF since Quakeworld TF in about 1996. However that game must slow down or even stop. It is just too unproductive.

Filling in the gaming gap, the IT startup I incorporated years ago seems to be getting hot right now. We have paid projects and one has every sign that it will be a windfall. If so, it might fund the business completely. This means that life in 2016 may be completely different from what I expect now.

Life is very dynamic and unpredictable. This winter I may be practicing guitar, maybe drums, maybe forming a classic rock band, maybe going into the studio to record rock songs a friend has written.

At night the wife and I move through all manner of sci-fi shows. Stargate is a staple, and I just saw Babylon 5 for the first time. Not sure what is next in that lineup.

Who deleted the harleydood that wired the vibrator in his black vinyl recliner with a throttle handle to experience the feeling when watching Harley run vids? He claimed it was like pumping iron.

It is a lot of fun flying sort of like being a bird when flying through the video down link via the goggles or screen

You just need to choose your location to fly carefully , Away from other people ,animals and so not to cause annoyance to people who may of been brainwashed by the media into thinking they are being spied upon or their privacy invaded

DUH the governments already doing that you have no privacy

And the visual clarity is not that great at any altitude above 30-40 feet sure you can make out people / shapes but no real detail

A good DSLR camera and lens works a hell of a lot better for spying from a distance

The little racer is a hoot and can make you feel a bit dizzy some times with aerobatics you need to be sitting in a chair
