Recently I was given an 85' VF500F interceptor from my work. It had been in the back of the shop, abandoned for several years, and robbed of parts. Unfortunately the parts were the vacuum slides from the carbs. After doing a TON of research I found out that the carbs from the 84', 85' and 86' were all different. My question is has anyone tried using the slides from either year in another set of carbs and gotten it to work with some tuning? I have a chance to buy a set of four brand new slides for an 86' for $200 but obviously don't want to throw my money away. It seems like the only difference is a third hole in the bottom of the slide...
Thanks in advance!!! I look forward to hearing from you all!

84 and 85 are interchangable. 86 is smaller diameter.

So right now on Ebay Someone has a set of 4 slides and diaphragms for "All 84' and 86' vf500f". They're Italian so their English isn't the best but I got them to measure the slides for the most part. It seems exactly the same EXCEPT for the amount of holes on the bottom.

Here are the pictures that they sent me. $_12 (2).jpg $_12.jpg $_12 (1).jpg

Don't fret; any hole can be filled with JBWeld.

Before you dump money into a dubious project like that i think you need to determine at least 2 things: compression on all cylinders and does it shift through all the gears (while you're slowly pushing the bike). :stung:

VF500s are well-known for valve problems if they've been over-reved or poorly maintained. You need to find out why the bike was taken off the road. :frown-new:
