Only had it a couple months, but so far:

Cons: Not as quiet as I hoped, internal flip down visor fogs when first flipped down in cold, have learned to flip it down before I leave, then back up, then the next time it comes down it is fine.

Pros: Super light, great ventilation, comfortable...liner was only one that felt as nice as RF1200, pinlock flawless, no buffet, no grab or air leak when turning head, center closure, I like pretty much everything except as mentioned.

Maybe Shoei or Schuberth is better...dunno. But I'm never buying online again, and this compared really well to the Shoei's I had available to try on and cost 30+% less.

I really like the flip down sun visor. I thought I wanted a Transitions, but now I'm kind of surprised how often I decide to ride with just clear, and having the flip down is just the ticket. Not as safe, some say, though.

I used AGV plastic lids until I tried an Arai Vector a few years ago. The fit was like the helmet just sucked onto my head and cocooned it in cotton wool. It's the only helmet I've had that is actually a pleasure to wear.

It is by far the most comfortable lid I've owned. I literally tried on everything in the shop and the Shoei was close but the Arai was just a little better. Have done some 800 km days in it and just forget that it's there. It was comfortable from the day I bought it and it feels just the same now as it did new out of the box. It's over five years old now so probably time to think about an update.

Apparently, (the salesman in the bike shop told me so it must be true), we have new legislation in Australia that the helmet age must be less than five years from the date of manufacture. I've seen plenty of cheaper helmets that looked pretty tired after a couple of years, but the Arai is still in perfect shape and I don't believe that the fiberglass will degrade that fast with UV light. Not sure what I'll go with next but it will essentially boil down to whatever fits best, is light and isn't too loud. Out of boredom I tried on a cheaper lid when I was waiting to pick up my bike and it was very light, it fitted ok, was not uncomfortable in the couple of minutes I had it on. Cheap helmets have come a long way over the years.

Picked up this Arai RX7-X (corsair-X) in Japan in September for $450.00 USD equivalent.

More nose and chin space than the predecessor Corsair-V, quieter too.

It's actually the EPS foam that degrades, leaving it unable to decelerate your skull and by extension your brain. The sole job of the EPS is to absorb the shock of your head hitting something. Over the years, it hardens and transfers more impact to your brain.

Arai Vector 2 (small) & Shoei RF1100 (medium). The Arai fits great but noisy at speed, the Shoei fits snug and ventilates better, not as noisy as the arai

awe.. found some old new stock in hiding, thing is I'm still not sure I actually like the helmet over I like the paint job, it's an X12 which has me going ehhhh. I tried the GT air, doesn't do it for me, and the RF is still on the fence, which is the version that has the fancy photometric shield that started this hunt.

I like that X12 a lot. How much are they asking for it?

My very first helmet from my parents at 9 was an Arai (far right). My 16th birthday present was a Freddie Spencer Supervent ( upper left) and matching every dollar I could get for my 1st street bike (84 VF500F). Been Arai for me ever since. They fit me, I like them. Sold helmets for years, lots of good options out there. [IMG]

The front Stars & Stripes helmet on the left is really pretty. Do you remember how old that helmet is?

011 I believe. I found one for 499.00 they come and go on ebay right around the 500 dollar mark new. The back of it is pretty cool too. I'm still thinking about it, it's talking to me. Guess maybe I'll go try on some other x12s and get a fresh perspective.

That is one fine collection Captain! I have probably owned most of those Arais too, but most of the old ones live in a landfill now. Here's what I have on hand:

Good on Arai for bringing back some of those classics like the Spencer and Mamola with new shells. I still think the Pepsi Schwantz was on eof the best.

I wore my Schwantz the first time taking Freddie Spencer's riding school. Both Freddie and Nick Ienatsch gave me some shit. It was funny. The Mamola was my road racing helmet. The second one in the picture is missing fiberglass. Crashed on a friend's RS125 when someone in front of me seemed to actually stop to pick up passengers at the bus stop at Pacific Raceways. Was planning to time it so when he was leaving on his shitty line, I would late apex it and get drive for the straight, and pass him before the finish line (he was on a CBR600). Nope. The RS brakes are ridiculously touchy, one "panic" finger, I was on my shoulder.

My parents were so pissed, when I brought my first bike home (in a box no less) that they decreed that they would never help me in any way, or buy any gear for me. They were true to their word and now that I think back on it short sighted and foolish. They were lucky that I was a cautious rider and since all my heroes went about in helmets and gloves so did I. Even then I could only afford the cheapest of gear.
