    Hey Guys...

Has anyone of you picked up your bike and spun it around 180 degrees on your kickstands? I'm kinda freaked out about doing it on my 98' but am curious to see if it is possible? Any takers?

You should post a video of your first attempt ;)
I've seen it done on other bikes, and I don't see why a VFR would be any different. The real question is....why would anyone WANT to do that?
I wouldn't even try it, becuase if I smashed the bike up, every time I told someone what happened, it would have to start with me saying: "well, I was trying to spin the bike 180 degrees on the kickstand and....... (DOH)"
Um, anyway, I guess good luck?

    Mike

My buddy spins bikes around like whenever needed, even my VFR a few times. Of course he's 6'8" about 285lbs and can spin his 1100xx like it's a toy...

If you can pull it off everytime, it's a cool skill to have. I won't even try though, I know I'll just drop the damn thing.

I caught a friend trying that with his CBR600 when nobody was around, he couldn't even pull it off. Almost dumped his bike. I just chuckled and walked away.

Ah.. yeh I just worry when I see the kickstand flex when I just sit on the bike... so let alone a whole load of 450+ lbs that just baffles me as to how the kickstand takes the load

I've seen it done and i had to try it. I first did it on my cousins CBR no problem. I'd tried it on my 06 VFR, the f@$%ing thing is heavy  compared to the CBR but got to move it a little bit...not doing that again.

    use the centerstand

On a solid floor you can turn any bike around on the centerstand. Just pull it around. the centerstand will vibrate a little as the tubing winds up and then unloads, but the vibration actually seems to help. takes about five seconds.

I do this a lot on my 2003 Honda 600RR. Why? I'm 5'4" 120 lbs and didn't want to go the lowering department. It helps on tight spot. It's scarier to back the bike up while I'm on it than spinning it around.
However, I don't think VFRs are good bike to try this. They are heavy.

Note: If done correctly, your waist and legs share some of the load with the kick stand. Your body and your bike should be on a "pyramid" type formation when you start the spin. Your hips pivots and right hand is grabbing the frame on the other side.

BTW, for all of you with CBR600 friends, the '98-01 VFR centerstand bolts right up to the attachment points on a CBR600F2 (they came with no centerstand). Even clears the exhaust pipes. Can't speak for F3s or F4s.

The only thing dumber than trying to spin your bike around on the kickstand would be to wear chaps while you are doing it.

Just put your foot on the tang, grab the handlebar and rear lift handle, lean back to lift the other centerstand contact just clear of the concrete and lift just enough to raise the front wheel clear. Now pivot the bike around 180 degrees with nothing dragging and very little effort needed. It's done in less time than it takes to read this. There's no danger of tipping over, because the centerstand tang will hit the floor beofre it can become unbalanced.

I've done the manueuver using the side stand on my DR350, but that's a whole lot less weight to manage and even then it's tricky.

it's all about balence, done it alot on the dirt bikes, but since there's never really been a good reason to do that with the VFR I won't. I've been with dudes that do that, thou their bikes are the lighter gsxr6 r6 6rr etc. I've turned my sons 54 90 degrees when it was in the way and wasn't room to turn useing the tires, wasn't to bad but then again those bikes are light and carry what wieght they do have lower so not that hard to do.

Ive done this numerous times on 350lb supersport bikes but never on the big porky ones like my ZX14 or viffer. 540lb mass on a small 1" stand probably isnt too good. My gixxer 750 and Kawi zx6r i did all the time if i parked in a tight spot somewhere where a normal u turn isnt easily possible.

There is a nice rubber bit at the end of my stand and I wouldn't want to chew it up. I'm going to practice skidding the back wheel in when parking, BMX style. Also a foot down turn around / burnout. Both will look much cooler but more importantly the tire rubber has much higher durometer than the rubber on the side stand. A little tire spin will consume much less rubber than grinding the stand into the ground. Trust me, I did the math.

And what a random bump. This thread is old as hell.

Seen guys do a 90 on flatrack bikes by planting the hotshoe foot and popping the clutch.

The question aboot the kickstand thing is, why? This would be a great time to show a video selfie for the stuntas..

Old threads never die they just fade, fade away until dug up again..
