Must have been replace your clutch day today as I also replaced my clutch and rebuilt my clutch slave too. Note to those who install a Barnnet clutch kit, the one odd size disc will go into the clutch basket first. Also did an oil change of course as it made sense to do this at the same time.

I think all clutch packs are the same; the first fibre disc has to fit over the anti-judder ring and so has a bigger id.

I was amazed how easy the process of installing the new plates was; definitely not worth putting up with poor clutch performance.

Which fiber discs did you buy? Looks like they offer 3 different materials.

In my case I was mostly upgrading, I was having slippage issues even after bleeding the line a few times so figured I'd just replace it with something new and hopefully better. I ended up rebuilding the clutch slave just for good measure. Might rebuild the clutch MC too.

I'm at least the 3rd owner and when I bought it the clutch and brake fluid was as dark as coffee, the engine oil level was well above the max line too, so I have to assume that proper maintenance was never really performed on this bike. So it is quite possible that the bike was a little abused while riding as well. There were a few plates on the original clutch that had "burn" marks on them but otherwise it looks like the original parts could be refurbished.

The Barnett clutch discs are a down grade over OEM. The only thing Barnett makes worth buying is springs.

Interesting, always thought their kits were of good quality. Well, at least I have their springs! We'll see how it goes then. I still have the OEM pieces so I can always put them back if they prove to still be in spec and salvageable and the Barnett proves to perform less or worse!

The clutch is an area that I would not have considered working on, if I didn't regularly also ride my VTR1000. That bike has similar mileage to my VFR, but from recent inspection has had a fresh clutch pack installed fairly recently, and the take-up action is so much better on the VTR. As your own bike wears gradually, you may never notice the deterioration until you try a different bike. As a regular rider for 34 years, I felt I should be able to do a better job of managing the clutch on my VFR, turns out that the fibre plates were worn enough to make it pretty tricky.

The new clutch, along with the FactoryPro shift star that I installed earlier, makes the transmission in the VFR work very nicely indeed.

I'm now starting to think that clutch fibre plates should be thought of like brake pads, a consumable item. Certainly its not a big deal to replace them.

Got my rims powder coated white this past week and finally got them installed today. Now to get new plastics and paint them pearl white with some silver and gold decals like my old 86 VFR700. I love white rims for some reason.

Had front rim repaired from hitting pothole two weeks ago, new PR4 mounted and balanced (5550 miles on old one), and upgraded to EBC HH pads since I had it apart. Took it out for a short spin to rough up tire. All is well.

How'd you do that? Just bought clear ones or is there something you can do to make the stock ones clear?

I got up early on Sunday and took county road 697 to Sherman through Ida. It is a very pretty ride through a few curves, some elevation changes and bucolic scenes. What I didn't realize was the wind was at my back pretty much the whole time. When I got to Sherman I turned to go home down highway 11 and the wind was either full on in my face or just off to my right. It just kicked my ass all the way home. I had 30+ mph gusts that were making my normal, comfortable cruising speed feel like I was running over 100. Add to that the lane changing bursts and it was not much fun. I am afraid that I slowed to cruiser and Harley velocity. Even with the wind it was a good day to be out.
