    Yeah, the Ohlins was a very nice upgrade. And it really was a noticeable upgrade, the difference in ride was immediate. Even the pillion passenger felt the difference.

    A full suspension upgrade is on my list for the VFR. I have spent a lot of money and time on my CBR track bike with Ohlins shock and forks with SBK valves. Over kill I'm sure for a A/B track rider but I'll take everything I can get that keeps me in the comfortable fast area. Going to Barber in a month for a few track days and thinking of taking the VFR along for a few slow fun laps. Even with the stock suspension It should be a blast.

    You know I tried GP shift many years ago to help out on really leaned over shifts. I can do it but it takes to much of my concentration away from other things like heavy trail braking. Could not drill it into my head, too many years of standard shifting. That and downshifting by accident and either over reving the motor or doing a nooner wheelie unexpectedly.

    For cheap quick shifter, wire the kill switch through the horn button and tap it as you shift :) Old trick

    For those wondering about quick shifter working on carbed bikes, they do. They work by killing the ignition.

    I don't care for one on a street bike. But its nice to have on a track bike and beneficial once you are very fast. May be in a couple years I can benefit from using a quick shifter on my trackbike.

    One older method is a piece of a hacksaw blade taped to the handlebar grounding out a Scintilla Vertex mag hopefully modified by Joe Hunt. Racebike stuff.. I never was fast ;) Everyone else here is.

    but you're still at the mercy of how fast you can let the button go...

    probably slower than an eyeblink. which is probably still faster than a throttle or clutch flash and go, but still.

    You still have to move your foot just not you hand, and you have to still clutch to down shift. But we've been doing clutchless shifting on dirt bikes for years, just have to be smooth on the throttle.

    I can do clutchless on the vfr quite easily, up and down.

    That's what they all say until they try it. Best 'toy' I ever fitted to a sports bike. A GSX-R 1000 K6 in fact.
    Fantastic piece of kit if you go canyon riding or on roads where you're up & down the box.

    You still manually shift & yes you can fit to carb' bikes as all that happens is the spark is arrested for a split second.

    I do not know what it is about my new 2002, but ever since I changed the oil a few week ago, the shifting is butter smooth with NO clunk what so ever. My other 2002 always had a little clunk, even after a fresh oil change.

    I've ridden the Panigale 1299 and the S1000RR with both quickshift up and auto-blip downshift. Maybe I'm lazy, bu it was really nice using it around town. Obviously excellent in the twisties. The 99 I have now shifts very easily. A slight squeeze on the clutch lever, as light dip in throttle and it's in gear, up or down, so it's not necessary for "normal" driving, but it's fun. IMO, the BMW system worked better than the Pani. The Duc you had to have the throttle 100% off, the Bimmer would allow a little throttle on the downshift. Of course the BMW has cruise control which on the freeway allows you to take the pressure off of your right wrist while droning along, but I digress. I think that after using it, I'm surprised it's not standard on all higher end bikes. Even Suzuki is putting it on their new Gixxer 1K. Plenty of riding situations where you still need to use the clutch, up or down.

    Boots were new last year ... the difference in shifting was immediately noticeable following my last oil change a few weeks ago.

    The oil that came out was still translucent.

    I did do the clutch and brake fluid flush and fill at the same time though.

    I would guess it's due to your clutch flush.
