Found my 02 in 2010 with 1800 miles...ridden 500 miles in 4 years...now after looking at at least 8-10 VFR'S ..3/4 Of them were dropped or thrashed.
So ya, rather go for older kept bike and low milage..you can always replace aged parts (mine had none) and get a bike dirt cheap with even the original tires, like mine and use them, all be it my bike was kept in a heated garage.
Oh the thread is older riders, so bought mine at 53 after not riding for ten years and just turned 60.

I totally love people like that. My dad was mountain biking the Tsali Trail and Moab at 82 y.o. His doctor called him "The Animal". He always said, "thank you".

Part of my reasoning (can I use that word to discuss a motorcycle purchase???) for the ST1100 was to try out a more relaxed ride position and style of bike. Yesterday I had a choice of my 5th gen (which could do with a run) or the ST (which has been ridden every spare riding day). Given I had in mind a long ride, felt like going at a relaxed pace, and it was a bit nippy out, the ST was a natural choice. I did up the pace later in the day, but for much of the ride I was taking in the scenery and feeling remarkably serene, even wondering whether my wife would have enjoyed it. There is a time and place for all styles of bikes, but keeping riding seems like a good way to at least feel like you are still young (I'm only 51!).

You are right when you say that you can get a "hot" bike for low cost. The fact you can stops me from buying a new bike. Especially when it comes to a quality product such as a Honda. The paint on my 1995 vfr750 is amazing. The bike looks like new, as does most of the bike. I can't see spending thousands of dollars more to get the latest vfr800, as I know from riding it, that it's really not that much of an improvement over mine.

They tell me " Pics , or it didn't happen "......so here is a pic of me with my new 1996 VFR, Beetle Bags, Russel Daylong Seat, 69,000 miles, stock bike otherwise. Looks like I'm contemplating my future, what's left of it....because I said in my first post something about me being 75. It's true...this bike is extremely cool.

I like the look of the Russell seat compared to corbin, rubber side down-shiny side up.

I'm 58 and just bought a 2001 VFR with only 10,500 kms on it. I've ridden much faster bikes but there will always be something faster. Had a number of bikes and so far I'm pretty happy with the bike. Good balanced machine with a nice swiss watch kind of feel to it. I feel I need to ride just to forget about the daily BS and clear my head. I'm sure a lot of guys feel the same way. IMG_2307[1].jpg

Climbing off my old BMW and getting on the VFR is like comparing a DC 3 to an F 15. I like both, but I have to used to the personality of this Red Bike. It's fast, man, enough to make me pay lots of attention. All these years I've been accustomed to running out of steam at 6,000 RPM......now I find out that life begins at 6,000. Whoa. My kids want me to put a pipe on it, make more noise. OK, when the money shows up. Suspension upgrades come first, and the usual R/R work. Buying this '96 has given me a new outlook......ride safely.

I feel at home amongst you old guys. I am 68 and have been riding since 1970. I have owned close to 20 motorcycles. I enjoyed them all.

The VFR is a great motorcycle for a guy my age. I own two VFR, an 06 for Florida, ( I am a lucky snowbird), and a 2015 for the Montreal summers. I have traded a Triumph Speed triple for this new VFR.

    Welcome rexbaum,

63 here. And a real novice. So what? Believe me she'll like
what riding does to your energy levels. Mine certainly does ;)

As near as I can tell, most the same accidents that kill riders
would have also killed drivers. And bikes are much more agile
and have much better visibilityand audibility.

Tell her that the power makes you safe much more than it
endangers you. Which is very true. For level-headed riders
with the basic skills, that is.

    Old guy, old bikes

I'm 72, been riding off & on for >50 years.
Got 81K on my '95 VFR & it's still my go to bike. Just got an '85 VF500F which I'm looking forward to getting on the road with new tires, chain, brake pads, etc.

I say ride while you can--I regret more the things I didn't do than those I did.

    Chronologically I'm 59 and mentally 16. I own, ride and enjoy my 2015 VFR1200F.
What are you supposed to do? Watch cricket, buy a Toyota Camery, play lawn bowls and die?
