I've had these four years now. Sidi Livia Rain
    SIDI BOOTS.jpg

Will keep feet dry, but very cold. Need heat or layers on feet.
Hard to break in...not much softer from when I first got them. Very happy with rain protection though.
I need another pair of boots.

I'd love these for the comfort, protection, added height for my 28 in inseam, but the price leaves OUCHIES: http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/daytona-lady-star-gtx-boots

Just picked up a pair of Sidi Roarr boots today. It's the model replacing the vertigo. I like them much better than my Alpinestar gortex boots (Web?) After 8years and 20K plus local riding miles, the alpinestars finally lost their soles last week.

Have lots of boots and soon some going up for sale. Thought I was going to buy a Harley or big cruiser so have a never worn pair of Redwings. Don't look right on new VFR

I wore a pair of VENDRAMINI MARATHONS today. Perhaps now my fav. On and off and locking is great. Also Have the Vendramini Daytonas. A little lighter

1 pair of Combat Lites and 1 pair of Combat Tourers. May sell one. And I thought I was going off-road on the BMW GS so bought Alpinestars Toucan and never wore them. I'm going to see how they look on the Honda.
Lastly I have a pair of original Oxtar TCX that I love.

I'm a boot whore. And I need help. I am looking at the Sidi Vertigo ( which I once had and sold when I got the BMW. )

It's good that riding boots aren't as diverse a subject as tires and oil. What a mess that could be.

    Y'all have some fine footwear

At this point in time I don't want to spend much. Found the "Bilt" speed racer boot at cycle gear. Got a store close by so I can try them on. Does anyone have these or know of a comparably priced boot I should look at?

Other than finding a closeout deal it is hard to find a boot that is in the Bilt price range. However, the boots that Bilt have are often nowhere near the quality and protection you get with the higher price boots, especially if you are looking at race boots.

Most sport touring boots are built for long range comfort and off-bike walking around, which means the boot will flex and bend more, which is good when walking around or being on the bike for a decent stretch. However, in a crash these types of boots do not offer hyper extension or hyper flexion protection and could allow for some serious injury. Also present in good protecting boots is a good heel counter and metatarsal protection, as well as ankle padding and TPS sliders.

I'll use TCX as an example as I have a few pairs of their boots, they have a protection system called TCS (Torsion Control System). This consist of a couple of external movement limiters that help prevent the ankle from moving beyond normal movement range. This creates a safer boot but can also limit comfort. Most low cost boots do not have this type of protection built into them and therefore do not have the same level of protection as the more expensive ones. That being said, just because a boot cost more does not mean it can protect you more.

A good case in point is the previous TCX boot I had, the S-Zero touring boot, which was similar to the type of boot as the Bilt model you show. Where it is a full length boot, with good shin, toe and ankle padding protection, but did not have the TCS protection built into the boot. Since these are not meant for the track it probably wasn't a big deal for normal street/touring riding. Both of these boots would NOT be a good track boot IMO. One test you can do when looking at boots that offer good protection is to try and bend the boot at the ankle, not only in a side to side fashion but in a forward/rearward fashion. If the boot bends in any of those directions easily, then it probably won't help prevent a lot of common foot/ankle injuries.

Here you can see the similarity between the TCX S-Zero and the Bilt boots.

    TCX S-Speed boot.

Where as the new boot I bought to replace it, S-Speed, has the TCS protection built into the boot.

    Weird side note:

I was talking to one of our truck drivers. He used to be an EMT. He said in a large portion of pedestrian and motorcycle accidents, the shoes/boots will be somehow knocked off the victims laying several yards away.

I recently replaced my Cortech Latigo with the TCX S-Speed. The Cortechs lasted about 4 years/40,000 miles.

The TCX seems like a better quality boot, probably would even be okay at the occasional track day, but still not a track day junkie boot.

Back to the Dehners.. Not much in the way of the fancy colors or pucks ect. A couple of styles were worn by WWI tankers, the pair (second pair) I have were designed for B52 Alert Crews for quick donning. Later used over the pressure suits for USAF/NASA X-15 flights, Project Mercury and early Project Apollo.

Gory stuff here but sometimes when highspeed aircraft auger in a all that is left of the pilot are the feet encased in boots. The boot shown takes about 2-3 months for delivery. They are custom made using a series of measurements supplied by the customer. 13 in all as I recall for each foot.

Not as fancy either are real military issue jump boots and brogans.

One more. Danner boots out of Portland, OR.

Thanks. I'm glad too and happy to be here!!

I'll never buy SS or a boot with buckles again. They caused as much damage to my foot as they did protecting them.

    I'm stoked!!!

I called cycle gear in Lynwood to see if they had the Bilt "speed racer" boot to try on. They didn't.
But they said they have the "pole position" boot on sale for $99. It's regularly $179

I'm going to go in this weekend and see what else is on sale.

This looks like a much better boot than the other one and actually appear to be more like the TCX S-Zero boots too. Between the two, I would take this one.

I'm not sure about the Built boots, they are the low tier product line from Cycle Gear. Sedici is their better brand. That being said I would really do some research on either. Really look for the things that OOTV was talking about especially lateral and heel toe hyper-extensions. You have to really pay for good boots and if you ever have a bad get off you would pay BIG bucks to have good boots, you really can't pay to much. Don't skimp on boots, or any riding gear for that matter. There are some decent boots for reasonable prices but I am highly skeptical of Built boots. Their reviews are good but they are really not technical reviews, more like ascetic or comfort reviews. Find functional reviews from people that know what they are talking about. Most that I have seen on Built are total BS reviews.
I have never had TCX boots like the above ones but know guys that have used their products and crash tested them many times at the track and they make a good functional product. I have crashed in Alipnestars and Sidi Vertigo's with excellent functional protection. One was a high speed low side a t the track where I know I would have probably snapped fibula without the Sidi's on and the way i caught the edge of the track while sliding. Ankle was a little sore but the force that almost got me airborne was tremendous. (Note to self... next time your sliding at near 100 mph keep you feet up! lol)
Alpinestar makes some good products. Here is a sale on their Adventure boots which are very comfortable to wear and walk in.
