Rare Sportbikes For Sale has a 1985 Honda VF1000R for sale, on Ebay. Has 430 miles on it and looks like it too! If you're looking for a collector model, hers the one. Simply beautiful! If I had the cash, today, to spend, I'd buy it. Says he won't sell for under $10000.00! Read the ad, looks like a good deal.
Why can't Honda make a new one like this? http://www.ebay.com/itm/201629458028?rmvSB=true

If a museum or private collector really wants a good example of the bike then I guess his price is close. Otherwise I think he's dreaming. Just because he paid $11600 for it and dumped another $3100 in it doesn't make the bike worth $10,000 or more. The bike was never that popular when new. It was to heavy for any kind of racer or fast bike for the time.

If anybody buys it for $10,000 plus they can't ride it then. Otherwise it's just another VF1000R. A good example of one but just another bike. He most likely fell in love with it when he first saw it. That's why the price he paid for it. Who knows, it's worth what someone will pay for it. Like they say "there's an ass for every seat".

After reading what he has done to it and his specs are a tad off. It was never a 130hp. More like 122hp. It had a tad more than the 116hp V65. Plus the top end oil kit is a deduction IMO. It never needed it. Neither did the other V4's.

It won't last long. This is the second collector quality 1000R to come up for sale in the New England area. A few months ago an 86 was available on Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard. Pristine with about 10K miles, rear shock upgrade, full 4 into 1 exhaust for around 10k asking price. Was gone in about 3-4 days. Someone will buy it.

That's funny, I did not think that the price was too bad! This is the ONLY Honda V4 1000 c.c. bike ever made, with Gear Driven Cams. I don't think that the fact it was never that great a bike, compared to its peers, matters. Yeh, probably will go into someones collection. With new bikes running around $25,000.00 for a comparable model, I too think it may sell. Hope it does. I really liked these bikes. $10,000.00 doesn't buy a lot of anything, anymore.

I like it BIG time, and I think the price is ok.
Classic cars, bikes ec are going up in price/demand.
New cars/bikes can't compare to classics.

What bikes are comparable for $25,000? Any $25,000 is way more than what you get with the VF1000R and it's new. Just because it's rare doesn't mean it's worth $13,000 or more. I agree a collector or museum would pay that much. But those would be the only ones IMO. To pay $13,000 for a bike then ride it and it depreciates at least $3-$5k is not a smart move. Unless you've got more money than brains like Jay Leno, as he says. Then again he's a collector. I'd spend $20k on a new BMW K1300S which is a lot more bike than the V.

Most of today's bikes are $15,000-$20,000 and you get gobs more bike. Now you could spend $25,000++ on a Harley. Of coarse it's worth it though...................

You can pick up a Honda Super BlackBird for $5000 and it's a hellava lot more bike than the V. There's a lot more out there too. A nice ZX10,11 or 12. 2015 ZX10 is $12,500ish. Then there's the FireBlade. Another fine bike you can get cheap used. The list goes on...................

I didn't make my point too well, I guess. I meant to say that a new bike in 2016, that's comparable, to the VF1000R, in 1986, would be 20-25000. ie.- Yamaha R1M or Ducati 1299S, or an Aprilia RSV4, the nicer model. In 1986, the Honda was a good bike. Was slower and more expensive, stock, than its rivals, but was a trick unit. I realize the new bikes are faster and quicker, but they do compare in market position. They are both top of the line 1 litre Sportbikes. The "SP's" of their time.
