I searched to come up with nothing, I'm sure someone has asked this question...

Is it possible to add ABS parts to a non-ABS model and would it really be worth the time/effort/money?

I'm assuming at the very least you'd need the ECM, wiring, sensors and hall effect rings. Will ABS rings fasten to a non-ABS wheel, or do entire wheel assemblied need to be swapped? Are there existing mounting tabs for ABS sensors on non-ABS forks?

it would fail in garage economics 101. Would be easier to buy an abs model in the long run, have removed abs from bmws of yore with ok results.

The question has been asked more than a few times and all have been met with..."It's not worth it and better to find an ABS model for sale". My cursory look at doing this was that the time, effort and cost was not worth it. I didn't even have to ask the question online. YMMV

I think the subjective portion, "is it worth it" needs to be dropped. Let's stick with, "what would it take?"

My recollection of what it would take is the entire hard brake line system (with proportional valves), dash, wiring harness, ABS sensors, sensor rings, front wheel, and possibly the ECU, all from an ABS model bike. That was my cursory look. I stopped investigating after I looked into the prices of some of the items needed. eBay didn't seem to have much for used parts.

    Back from the grave thread..

It was given a decent burial in 2015.

PS Welcome TANTRATOM to the forum. Yes the costs of this idea failed well before anyone got around to considering the suspension.

I hope neither you or your friends were caught up in the recent earthquake.

When you get a chance Hi to the rest of the folks on here with a post in the "Introductions" section of the forum.

    Take care

As Mofo said, good move. Although with time and money you could probably take a non ABS model and put ABS on it, whether it's worth it or not is like Tink said, subjective. It makes more sense to me to just buy a bike with it.

Would have been a great addition to the 5.5gen but it never crossed my mind when I built it.

And I have no doubt that if it could be done, you'd be one who could do it!
