    Hi Guys

My starter relay solenoid was faulty, so i purchased an after market version. When i arrived home and opened the box, everything looks the same but... its only got two wires coming out of it instead of the four pins and the fuse. The overall shape and look is the same apart from that. When i rand the place that sold it to me, they said its the superseded part as the other one is old and told me to rewire it. Does anyone know if its possible to do? Obviously theres a trigger from the ignition switch and an earth. If anyone can either tell me what the four wires are (color wise or location) that would be awesome. THanks

The two pins that are missing are required, one will supply power across the main fuse to power the bike and the other to R/R (you were not bike specific). You could wire around it but it would be best to get the correct unit.

Ok as Toe says you can get around it and I know NZ is not awash with parts. You will need to be able to solder and know your way around how to test things , either test light or multimeter. You will also need a 30amp fuse holder and fuse. Once you have your heavy cables connected to the solonoid let us know and we can help sort it out. You will have to cut both connectors off so you can solder these wires up. I think once the battery is connected, you can touch the blue wire to the bike frame and I think this should kick the starter motor in, just make sure the bike is not in gear. If you don't know how to solder these wires as a temp fix you can use the screw type wire joiners

Cheers mate. Yeah I'm a mechanic (on cars) and know my way around electronics, just not to flash on bikes. Just wanted to know if anyone had wiring diagram or can tell me the pinouts for the main 4 pin plug so i can re-wire as needed. Bikes not at my place, so just wanted a bit of info before i go out to work on it. Thanks again

With your meter set to ohms press the start button and on the 4 pin connector you should get continuity to earth on one of those pins, this will connect to the blue wire on the new solonoid (that is after you have proved it is the starter wire) then from what I remember the other 3 wires are connected to the other wire coming from the solonoid. That wire does look a little on the small size to run all the bikes power through (solonoid is probably from a pit bike or something similar) but you are stuck with that unless you use that wire to trigger a relay that is capable of handling more power, which after thinking about it as I type is probably a safer option. That way you only need a 10amp fuse in the wire from the solonoid to the relay and then put a heavy fuse in the power supply to the relay from the battery

Pitbull, I have been thinking about this, it might be easier to ignore the pink wire from the solonoid and run a new heavy wire direct from the battery side of the solonoid, through a 30 amp fuse and then you could join the 3 wires from the loom connector all together, this way you won't need the relay setup, might be easier
