I have a 2003 with 22k miles and yesterday as I was riding home stopped at a stop sign and as I pulled out it just shut off. FI light flashes when I crank it. Turn key on and no fuel pump prime. I added a volt meter a couple years ago and it dark with key one and fuel pump doesn't cycle. What's weird is the vokt meter shows 10.2 when cranking. Either way the voltage was little low when I was riding because I was in a lot of stop and go traffic and fan was running but never saw it below like 12.x. At idle and always nearly 14 when revved. Maybe bank sensor? Had the sub harness done and I added a VFRness a couple years ago.

Idk...this sounds dumb, but my positive battery lead wriggled loose and did the same thing. Random shut offs, FI light flickering on and off. Checked almost everything, but never wiggled the leads until the battery needed to be removed... :/
    Hope you find the issue!!

It's because Honda screwed up the wiring. I really need to post what I found. There's a wire baking itself to death because Honda didn't make it robust enough. Fixed mine and now am fixing my buddies 2007. The wire isn't loose- it's dieing, and it's getting ready to take your stator and rectifier with it..... If it doesn't randomly shut the bike off while your on the freeway.....

The main fuse by the battery was toast. I tried to clean contacts but it is still getting warm so I am gonna cut it out and solder in a new fuse holder.

The wiring to that main fuse holder on my moto was so hot to the touch (just after a few seconds of the moto running) that it burned my fingers. My fuse wasn't toast, but I replaced the battery and the problem was solved.

Not saying that's what you should do...but I had the exact problem with the wiring being hot and a new battery solved that issue for whatever reason... My charging system has been fine and especially now after beefing up the stator/rr wiring.

I wish I saw this thread sooner.

If you are dropping down to 12 volts stopped at traffic with the fan running, you have a charging system issue. It should never be below 13.2 - 13.4 volts at idle. If it's below that it's not charging the battery.

Please see my electrical loads thread on the forums here. It's helped a several people bring their charging systems back up to spec.

AMs sixth generation VFR was exhibiting similar issues as she stated. I went through all the grounds clean them up. In the end it was a loose positive cable. But then she still had some issues with the battery not staying charged after some City riding.

I made her one of my wiring harnesses, and her charging voltage is better than it's ever been since she installed it.

Sorry, when I had the problem, I came looking to see who else had it here on the forum. No one else did, but now that my buddy has, I came back looking and now I see other people are having the problem too. I just posted what I found on the 6th gen forum, hopefully people check out their bikes and take appropriate action.

mneal, I recommend filing a complaint like I mentioned in my post....
