Throttled! A little help if anyone is willing...

So, I'm attempting to change my right Clip-on/handlebar, as my 5th gen was knocked over onto it's right side and amongst the other damage done, the right bar was bent, such that it no longer offers sufficient clearance from the tank at full-lock...

I bought a (used) replacement, and thinking it would be the work of half an hour or so (I really should know better by now, but hey!) got stuck in to changing it.

Bar-end off, front brake reservoir off, switchgear un-fastened, bar unclamped and removed from the fork, grip off, and all is fine - but then I cannot remove the throttle tube! My manual helpfully suggests at this stage "remove bar from throttle tube", but there seems to be something else holding it, as it doesn't budge!

My question is - am I missing something, or is it just stuck and needs persuasion? I don't want to use unnecessary force and break something if I'm missing something, but I can't see what it is. I've not removed the throttle cables, as they don't seem to have enough play in them without de-linking them at the other end (which I'd rather not do if I can help it), but I can't see any obvious reason that that would be the cause. It does mean that the bottom half of the switchgear is still against the bar, but that doesn't seem to hold or clamp the bar in any way that I can tell...

Do I have to unclip the cables and bottom half of the switchgear in order to slide the throttle tube off, or is there something else obvious that I'm overlooking?

 

The switch block has a stud that locates in the handle bar. Look at the replacement to see its location. You will need to displace it to remove the tube.

 

Thanks Mohawk. The stud in the switchblock is in the lower half presumably? (i don't have the replacement to hand to check - the bike's at where I work at the moment) That means I'll have to pull the throttle cable-ends out of their locating holes in order to access it? It doesn't seem possible to do so without unclipping them at the other end, as whilst I've tried, they don't seem to have enough free-play to pull them out of position...

 

Can't get throttle tube off without loosening one or both cables down at the bottom hook-ups.
