Who Hates Harley Davidson?

The Honda dealer I would for is beside the local Harley dealer. If we take a Harley on trade the Harley store gets it and we get their metric trades. It's all about image but no one throws a bike away. Harley, after all, is still in the business of making money no matter what they say.

 

I'm just telling you what a Hog dealer employee told me. Do I believe him? Hell no. Is Harley Davidson good at marketing and making profit? Hell yes.

 

I never meant to question your account. I am sure it is accurate. I was just saying, "at the end of the day" Harley is only interested in assets, unit sales and P&A margins. They want to make money and the will wholesale off their trades just like everyone else. We used to hear those stories all the time. It is true that Harley dealer will not keep a metric bike on the floor. It just goes against their marketing. We had people walk into the shop saying "I want a BMW or a Harley because I want the best." We always threw up in our mouths a little when we heard that. You didn't say stuff like that around my boss without getting an ear full. He worked for the motor company for years and developed a love for BMWs.

That may be true these days, but the perception of japanese bike owners ("you meet the nicest people on a honda" and other marketing campaigns) helped salvage the image of motorcycle owners that the hells angels and other harley clubs helped to wreck in the 60s.

 

Ironically I am seeing the opposite happening now. These scoot jockeys who stunt on the streets and freeways stopping traffic so they can do their little stunt show on public roads are doing the bad PR now for metric bikes. The same can be said for some of the videos where the mob mentality rules often shows a show down between a pack of riders and a car or two where it usually ends badly! Although we never get the full story it usually seeems that the pack of riders riding wildly and without any regard to other people's safety or right of way, triggers the event.

HAMC's original aka Mother Charter was from 1948. The name came from a Howard Hughes movie of the same name, who got the name from WWI fighter pilots.

BTW, most "Japanese bike owners" are Japanese.

 

One of these days, a bunch of the "stuntas" will run up against any number of MC bad boys who will clear that traffic jam up real quick.

Meanwhile back at the Harley ranch, can you believe people pay more for them than some people pay for really nice cars? We can go buy a BMW or Jap bike that will go 200mph for only $20K or less. I really don't have a need or want to go 200mph so I just settled on a garden variety Honda VFR. :biggrin-new:

I feel exactly the same way. When some of these guys get together its like a swarm of Bee's. Forcing other drivers to literally have no other option but to sit very still as to not hit any of them. That pisses me off to no end.
