My apologies if this is a common problem. I've had my 96 VFR for about 2 years it has 18000 miles. It has been running great but about 6 months ago I would have to hit the start button a couple times before it would do anything. I haven't ridden it in about a month and did an oil change yesterday. Tried to start it and it turned over but wouldn't start. The battery was weak so I charged it. Now when I hit the start button I get nothing. Lights dim but it doesn't even click.

How old is the battery? My OEM lasted 5 years---
Think you should take it to a local auto parts store and have it load tested.
    May be time

I've had the bike for a couple years and don't know when the previous owner purchased the battery. She said she always kept it on a battery tender. It indicates fully charged but it's not a bad idea to have it load tested.

Do you have a meter? What is the standing voltage at the battery and what is it when you hit the starter button?

I was going to say the same thing as Duc and Toe, still agree, the battery should be checked to take any questions outa of the thought. then theres the switch, and or the relay as well, but check the battery, a resting battery will slightly charge once drained, but only a bit, the other thing here is do a load test. I've seen battery's with good voltage, but have next to noting when they're called in to do their thing equals No cranking amps.
