Found a wrecked 2005 VFR on Craigslist. I know some of the parts won't interchange with my bike (2009) I'm a little disturbed by the way the welds broke on the frame. They don't show very good penetration.

with tyres like that, now wonder it crashed! The welds probably broke with the impact as naturally they are weak points to an extent. Hope the rider wasn't badly injured :-(

Well, at least it can be recycled as scrap.

Interesting to see how it is put together.
I'd have thought there was more to those welds.

Pretty little weld puddles--but absolutely no penetration whatsoever, what a joke... a good weld will be as strong or stronger than the base metal.

Bingo! I work as a quality engineer, and that's the quick and dirty of how we tell if our supplier gave us a bad weld, or if our assembly staff broke off a welded stud. Breaking a good weld should rip out a section of the base metal with it.

The front tire is garbage, but the rear tire looks to have been replaced fairly recently. I probably paid a little too much for it ($500) but so long as the wheels are straight, then that's the main thing I want. The engine is supposed to be good, and if it is, then that will be a nice bonus.

I bought it from a guy who bought it from the rider that wrecked it. He claims that the guy was riding drunk, and while hospitalized, he didn't break anything.

Now, if you want the real joke, the guy it bought it from has owned it for a year and was planning on repairing it, but finally realized that he wasn't going to get around to it. He kept insisting to me that it could be fixed cheaply. He also insisted that the front tire was new, so...

Then again maybe he thought, since the welds broke and not the cast and formed sections itself, it could be "easily" welded back lol

Not bingo. It depends on your base metal sunshine. Welds are normally de-rated by safety of factor because they are unpredictable. If your using crappy metal, your weld will be stronger. Start getting into SS and higher tensile strength carbon steels and they will be stronger.
