WSB testing this week gone at Jerez, Johnny Rea on his Kawasaki posted fastest times, blowing the outright lap record and super pole away in the process, this included the Primac Ducati and 2 other MotoGP teams

By day 4 using slicks Rea was consistently posting fast lap times, only slightly slower on WSB rubber but faster than Chas Davies who posted 3rd fastest, Tom Sykes 5th

So now Chas no longer has the speed is it a third year for JR?

Weather was cold, not optimal for Michelin rubber. JR will be fast, always is, but I don't think Chaz is any worse off than he was at the end of the year. Some big guns in WSBK this coming season, should be better than 2016.

Did WSBK move to Michelin? I thought they run Pirelli? When did they switch?

The MotoGP guys were on michelins at the test, the WSBK guys were on Pirelli. The weather was cold...Michelins don't work that good in the cold, Pirelli a much better tire in lower temps.

Ah, I saw Michelin mentioned then the JR and Chaz comment. I thought Michelin was in WSBK now and I missed the announcement. After looking at the post you made your comment to, makes sense now.

This ought to be interesting. New for 2017 in WSBK, the second race will be a slightly different starting grid, where the front row will move to the third row and the first and third positions will swap. The second and third rows will move up, so now row two will be the front row and the third row will be the second row.

Yep. If you're a good starter, qualifying on the second row would give you the best advantage. Close enough to the front row on race one and on the front row for race two.

Forgive my ignorance as I do no follow NASCAR, in fact I despise it. Is this actually how they do it or is this a reference to the same level of thinking?

To me it's similar to HD in that there's a whole cult following to it. Although not exactly the fault of NASCAR but the straw that broke the camel's back for me was when they interrupted a MotoGP race to show NASCAR updates, these were just "updates" and not even a race and never went back to the MotGP race. They basically cut of the race a few laps before the end of the race and then went about their day. I believe it was the Speed channel that did that.

This is a snarky reference to the same type of hee haw shit that NASCAR would come up with to make the racing something more than racing...I'm a little tired of fucking participation trophies and scripts to make racing "more interesting" to the fans. If you aren't interested in a fair fought battle....stick to video games and cheat codes.

NASCAR fans got pissy a few years ago because the eventual champion didn't win any races, or only won once while others won four or something. Anyways, consistency wasn't good enough for fans, so they started this new format where the top ten in the championship standings somewhere towards the end of the season basically start from zero points and race for the championship in the remaining races, negating any advantage they had previously in the season. At least, that's what I get from it.
