Coming home from work today I got hit in the left shin with flying debris, it didn't tear my pants but the impact was hard enough to take a patch of skin off.

Not really bad, lucky that I was only hit by a roll of brown industrial paper towels and not an industrial bottle Jack or one of the other heavy items in this douchers bedside tool box.
The worst part is after I get hit by crap flying out of the guys open tool box I pull up beside him and motion to him that his tool box was open. he looks totally annoyed and tells me he knows. OMG I wanted to freak out on the dude (Gotta start carrying some marbles or 5/16" ball bearings) I try to indicate that I was hit by something flying out of his box, but by then this guy is totally ignoring me.
Knowing that I wasn't seriously injured and nothing I could do was gonna make this guy give enough of a da/\/\n to stop and close his bedside tool box I thanked my lucky stars that I was only hit by something that blew out of his box and not something big and heavy thrown out by a bump in the road. At least I didn't have a broken leg, or worse yet knocked down at freeway speeds.
I gave the looser the ole one finger salute an blasted off as fast and far away from that rolling accident as I could.

I just can't believe he knew his big tool box was open and didn't even care about loosing his tools, let alone any damage or injury that he was likely to cause others.

We have a lot landscapers out here, and I always make it a point never to ride behind any open truck!

I had a sliding compound miter saw, something like a 15 inch on portable stand come out of the back of a truck once, dumbass left his tailgate open. luckily it came out when he took off at stop sign on a hill and I avoided it, laughed my ass off when he parked his truck and ran down a really really long hill after it. it went flying off the road into the woods.

glad you are ok, could have been worse, should not have happened at all

Can relate a bit, I can't count how many near misses I've had over the years. seeing some flying object leave the vehicle then going swooosh!!! though one time one hit me dead center of the chest, that stung, most are stones coming out of tires, I did have a mud flap once, whew!

That's hilarious, I mean really mistakes can happen, but to leave your tail gate open with an unsecured load in the back.....you would have to be really distracted, really tired, or maybe on cloud nine.

I wish I knew what those boxes like that guy had were called it was a work truck with the ladder rack and the boxes that run to whole length of the bedsides, it was even with the outside edge of the bedside and maybe 2 feet tall and about as deep. I wasn't able to see it was open when that Roll of towels come flying out like a streamer, thought for sure they would go on across in front of me and into the other lane. Can't really say when it's something that reacts alot to airflow. Can't believe it hit me that hard really those big brown rolls of towels weigh maybe a pound at the very most.

I guess the worst I had fly toward or across in front of me would have been a piece of (12x12)steel bent at 90 deg no clue where it came from.

A buddy and I were riding to Barber for the races in 2010. He was in front, I was staggered back on his right. A hundred yards or so in front of us, a big truck suddenly hit his brakes HARD and swerved back and forth a bit. A big retread gator came out from under that truck and flew into the air. I moved right , into the next lane and that retread went directly over my buddy's head as he tried to go left. I thought for sure things were going to REAL bad from that one.

Glad you escaped without any major injuries.

Ouch, glad you didn't get more seriously hurt! Whenever possible I try not to follow trucks, trailers (especially lawn care companies), or shitty looking cars. All of them tend to either kick up or drop a lot of crap.

Holy debris Glad you are okay!
    Totally sux, your experience today.
    Glad it wasn't worse.

I had siding fly out of a truck at me. Flew right over my helmet. Just another add to all these stories here and more that may come. Dangerous out there.

AM, be very careful about tossing ball bearings and such at cars. Some people will risk going to prison to get even with you. Life is anything but fair.

Along those lines, I NEVER follow a vehicle with a ladder on it. You know the rest of that story.

Many years ago, while riding the old GL-500 on a paved farm road outside of Edgerton, KS a Harley rider decided the speed limit wasn't going to work for him. He passed easily going twice my speed. As he pulled back into the right lane, 30-40 yards ahead, something fell off his bike. My first thought was, " it's a Harley, parts are supposed to fall off ". I moved left to avoid the hazard. That didn't work. The item, turned out to be a thermos, was still going faster than I was and opening the distance. I waited a couple of seconds for it to slow, and sure enough it went left. I went right. It found some rocks on the left hand shoulder and came back right. The distance is now closing fast. I go left again. This time it goes off the right hand shoulder. Thought I was good. Not so much. It finds a pile of grass and weeds and goes air born, nearly vertical. Now, I've got an incoming mortar round. I crank my head up to track it and loose it into the evening sun. I give up, brace for impact, and open the throttle (probably a bad idea). It misses by several feet.

I almost got hit by a mattress today :biggrin-new: Going about 65 behind an Accord with a pickup in front of them when a mattress fell out the back of the truck. Fortunately we were on a gentle left hand curve when it happened so I could see around the Accord and had plenty of time to take evasive action. I might have caught it on video - I was GoProing my ride today but at some point my battery ran out - not sure if it was still running for the mattress - I'll post it up if I caught it :courage:

    Food Truck?

    Arcata, California
Town worker hits the gas from the light, and a loose BBQ flies off the back of the truck, bounces around like a football.

He never did come back to pick up the Grill.

GG send to your local Highway patrol if ya got the license number--- unsecured load, big fine. These idiots are ramped with stupidity. Saw at least 6 just driving my cage to work. One really stood out an old Datsun mini truck loaded to the hilt with pallets, shocks completely maxed out and tied with twine-- had to be 10 feet high.
    Unfookin believable.

Your average motorist is a complete moron. Yesterday coming home from work I saw that a minor fender bender in the right turn lane at a very busy intersection had taken place. Instead of moving their vehicles into the parking lot in the shopping center literally feet away to the right, they decided to keep their vehicles parked in the lane to exchange insurance information.

... add tour buses to that list. With their low rear apron you get no warning that a tire is coming apart.

+1 It is ridiculous how truly ignorant the average motorist is , many people have absolutely no sense of responsibility. Had a CA crowd over on top of me. I was going about 10-15mph faster as her lane had slowed. She come s over on top of me . Had I nailed the brakes not sure I would have cleared her bumper , so I swerve to the far left of my lane only to be crowded between this ladies front fender and the car in the next lane. Knowing my pipes were about even with the middle of her door. I grab a fistful of clutch and throttle and let her rev for a moment before scurrying off. The lady never batted an eye. Seemed pretty obvious to me that she saw me to start with or maybe she's been driving on the ( insert your nearest large metro city here. DC comes to mind for me ) beltway.
