Very cool Terry! Yep my sister definitely would've liked the color scheme on that bike.

Sorry to disappoint but to be honest other than adding a set of T-Rex 8th gen. frame sliders (chronicled back on page 25 of this thread) and a set of Andreani fully adjustable fork cartridges (chronicled back on page 93 of this thread) my bike doesn't look all that much different than the pic in my last post on page 97 of this thread.

I can however show you a coupla old detail pics, sorry my friends but they're the best I've got at the moment. My project is currently dead in the water awaiting paint, has been for the last 4 years. Patiently waiting for my buddy Pez's health situation to significantly improve before we get back to work on the bike.

Pic 1 is my oil pan. The Gold,Blue, and Purple bolts securing it to the lower engine case are all made of Titanium. The drain bolt you see is also made of Titanium. The head of that drain bolt is hollowed out fairly deep to make it as light as possible.
The colored bolts that you see securing the Gold side cover are made of Aluminum. Look closely at this pic and you'll notice that you can see my oil filter, that's because I've removed the EVAP canister and related plumbing. Look at how much room there is to get your hand in there to remove the oil filter now during oil & filter change!

Pic 2 is an up close view of one of the valve cover bolts on my rear valve cover. The bolt is made of Titanium and as you can see (just like the oil pan drain bolt) the head is hollowed out to make the bolt as light as possible. These valve cover bolts cost $69.00 apiece. You need 8 of them for the job,do the math. :faint:

Pic 3 is a right rear 3/4 view of the bike. In this pic you can see the Ohlins rear shock, the Lust Racing lowering triangles connected to my "Pepto Bismol Pink" shock connector link (secured with Titanium bolts),the back end of the Sandy Bike Spares catless exhaust headers, and the little Red anodized part with the Silver adjuster bolt sticking out of it to the right of the rear exhaust pipe flanges is an American Performance Engineering manual cam chain tensioner. I no longer have the Yellow Lightech frame sliders installed as I switched over to the T-Rex 8th gen. frame sliders.

Pic 4 is a close up of the right side F&F carbon fiber side cover panel. I also have the matching left side cover panel and c/f gauge cover panel as well. These 3 c/f panels will all be painted with PPG Liquid Crystal Vibrance Collection "Perfect Purple" paint to match the bodywork.

Pic 5 is a shot of my custom Two Brothers torched Titanium exhaust with the "S bend" pipe wrapped in DEI Titanium exhaust wrap made with pulverized lava rock. The "S bend" pipe and Sandy Bike Spares header pipes were all professionally coated inside and out with Satin Black ceramic header coat.

Alright Terry and AM I can hear your question already. "Stosh since you had the exhaust coated with ceramic coating that, among other things, holds the exhaust heat inside the pipes and helps to cool the pipe quickly after it has been running why did you wrap the S bend pipe?

The answer to that question is that when adults look at my bike they view it with preconceived notions of what they consider to be right or what they consider to be wrong. Some adults will look at my bike and simply accept it for the goofy sillyness that it was intended to be while other adults will look at my bike and shake their heads and say that's just wrong.

Children on the other hand have no preconceived notions at all when they look at my bike. They don't care if I repainted almost every part of it a different color, they don't care if I put a single multicolored pipe on it,they don't care if I have grinning Jokers on my gas tank, they don't care if my wheel rims are two different colors, they don't care if my windscreen is Green or Orange or Red or Yellow or Purple or Pink, they don't care about anything at all that I've done to the bike in the way that adults do.

When children look at my bike they see all the colors and take it all in without judging. In their eyes they see something amazing and magical and wonderful and they want to touch it.

There's an ice cream shop not far from where I live that has a regular Tuesday night bike night in the summertime. All ages are welcome so you've got adults and children alike all eating ice cream and milling around looking at bikes. My bike being the weird wonky wacky thing that it is would invariably always draw a crowd.
On one particular night a woman and her two children (a boy and a girl) came over to look at it. You could see that the little girl was completely mesmerized by all the colors, her eyes were nearly as big as saucers and she was smiling from ear to ear and very animated. She stood for long minutes and gazed in awe at the spectacle that was in front of her and then, displaying an innocence reserved only for a child, she reached her right hand out and.....

Okay I wanna freeze time for just a second here Terry and AM and fill in the back story. Usually when I would bring my bike to that bike night I would stand away from it so that other people could get a good look at it and yet be near enough to answer any questions that anyone would have about it.
So imagine me standing about ten or so feet away and a fairly good sized group of onlookers all surrounding the bike with that little girl being right up next to it on the right hand side.
When I saw her reach her hand up a wave of shock and fear and panic and helplessness completely overwhelmed me because there was nothing that I could do to stop the inevitable thing that I knew was about to happen. Okay now let's unfreeze time.

.....and with the fast thought process yet slow reaction time a few nearby adults all reacted much too late to stop her from putting her hand on the hot S bend exhaust pipe.

Thank God the pipe had cooled down enough that she didn't burn her hand.

That night that little girl taught me the lesson that "With great power comes great responsibility." If children are going to be near the bike looking at it then I need to do what I can to protect them. Currently only the upper pipe is wrapped but I'll probably be wrapping the lower pipes too until they disappear behind the lower fairing panels just to be on the safe side.

Pic 6 is a close up of the custom badge on the exhaust can.

Pic 7 is for AM,in case you were wondering why I had all those different color Samco Sport vacuum hoses.

I replaced all the dull Black stock vacuum hoses on my throttle bodies and installed Red ones. I liked the look but it bothered me that I just didn't do enough there so I decided to make each hose a different color.
Okay AM once again I can hear your question already. "Stosh ya goob how come you went to all the trouble to replace all those vacuum hoses with a different color hose they're hidden under the gas tank and noone is ever going to see them?
Truth be told you would be right AM. But the thing is I'll know they're there and that's good enough for me.

Which brings us to Pic 8. Terry and AM you both politely asked me for more pics of my bike and I feel that I didn't quite do enough for you my friends so I'm going to let you two in on a small Super Top Secret part that I've been saving for quite a few years now. You both gotta double down pinky secret swear that you won't show this pic to anyone. :spy:

The story is I was killing time surfing on Ebay one afternoon quite a few years ago and I came across a custom aftermarket VFR800 part that stopped me dead in my tracks. This thing was so wacked out and wonky that I absolutely had to have it for my Jokermobile. A Joker calls attention to itself to be laughed at and this particular part was way over the top perfect for my bike.
The part was made by a guy in England and it fits perfectly with the stock bodywork. When I got it I rolled my bike out of the garage, installed some of the bodywork, and test fitted it just to see what it would look like on the bike. I was totally blown away,if ever there were a part that "deserved" to be on my bike this was it. In fact I liked that part so much I gave it a nickname.

Alright Terry and AM without further ado I present to you the secret weapon from my Super Secret Stosh stash and pose the question to each of you.
Take your time and look closely at Pic 8,can you spot "Jaws"? (Hint - it's not my neighbor's cute little puppy dog Ace standing in the background.)

Years ago, when I was riding my '91 all the time, I had a two brothers can. For some reason, that bike drew children more than any other. There'd be a dozen bikes at the coffee shop bike night and a stray kid would run to the red one and try to climb it. I think it was more exotic in the 90s as I don't get as many children freaking over the one I have now.

Anyway, I used to work afternoons at a coffee shop near my house. Three of us had a company, working form home. So we called it the Remote Office because that's where we'd meet up. I always parked on the patio because the owner cleared it for me and another regular motorcycle rider as he preferred we didn't take a real parking spot. One day a kid, pre school-aged but a little older than toddler, I guess, ran away from his father and went straight for the bright red bike.

His dad yelled at him "Don't touch it!" and the kid, look of defiance, staring at his dad the whole time, reached out and put his hand RIGHT on the can. I was expecting all kinds of mayhem, "Why is this parked on the sidewalk" speeches, and the like, but when the kid yanked his hand back his dad just said "See what happens when you don't listen? Get your ass over here." and continued on his way with the child in tow.

Anyway, what I did on my bike today was finally put the power commander in and cleaned some road grime from the bottom of the fairing. Whole new bike, even with the unoptimized 2001 base map. I have a Delkevic so it's NOT stock, but a good improvement. Doesn't bang and pop when the throttle rolls off anymore, either. I swear half a gallon out of every tank was burned in the pipes on deceleration before.

Next week I'll get to the brakes. And oil change -- K&N filter the old owner put in there gotsta go! Gonna try the Mobile 1 Racing 4T.

I ordered an air filter 5 weeks ago for the VFR, got a call from the motorcycle shop early this week that it arrived - yeah 5 weeks ago...!!! So I fitted that.

Shifted some things around in the shed, to make space for another motorcycle. :)
Bought myself another Honda, an 2004 XR400R. It's a backup for getting around the farm in case my quad (KingQuad) is off the road for repairs or maintenance. Just love this XR, it's such a nimble machine, handles beautifully, soaks up the uneven terrain and with that raw power of the thumping 400cc fourstroke engine it is a devine ride. <grin>

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.

Awe.. yes.. Fired up the Viffer as it's been a couple weeks, I'm feeling good enough to maybe take it out at the least add some good fresh fuel. But no.... It had to start raining at 35 degrees.
On another note we traded the CBR1000 for a street legal converted 015 CRF450 taking it's spot.

December riding. Bought some new Freeze-Out liners as well. Stitching has to be PINK. :/
But I'm happy to have picked some up.
    Still icy around here.

Are freeze out liners something you wear to bed to let your boyfriend or hubby know he is in the dog house?

I like how you roll AM. Would love to do a Christmas day ride here but there is a foot of snow with salt and sand on the roads. Last year I was able to get out on boxing day for a bit .

Went for good 2-3 hour ride today around the lake and country. Weather folks said rain but were wrong. Sun kept coming and going and a nice 77 degrees. but extremely windy. Nice to not be cold and rainy for a day!

Tried to flush/bleed my clutch with a Myti-Vac. I guess it worked okay for flushing, but not for bleeding. ended up bleeding it the old fashioned way. Returning it tomorrow. Maybe I'll buy SpeedBleeders for my brakes.

The best use of the mighty-vac is for flushing and filling the lines, bleeding on the other hand usually works best the old fashion way. It will not however work with speed bleeders, or at least not as well. Personally I think once you install speed bleeders, the mity-vac becomes superfluous.

BTW, there are three versions of the bleeder that are listed for the VFR. There is one that has a very short nipple and is I believe the SB8125, the better one to get is the SB8125L, as the nipple is slightly longer and easier for the bleed hose to stay put. The third version is only used in the PCV bleeder and that is the SB8125LL.

For the 5 Gen you'll need 2 per caliper and one for the clutch and one for the PCV valve. You might want to do your own count as this is off the top of my head. Also, it is my recollection that all of the calipers and clutch use the SB8125 model. They also have them available in stainless steel and are suffixed with the letters SS, so the common bleeder in stainless steel would be the SB8125L-SS.
