Ok this may come across like what! ? I'm looking for a 5th gen to use as a model for setting up a header build. Yea I know I have one right behind me. But I'm just about to take it apart myself, so it's not really available. Just thought I'd give a shoot out to see if there's a 5th gen just sitting around not being used. Non runner is ok, no fairings, even better. It best have the center stand. Have an idea in the pipe now over a header design. Thanks to OOTV we've got a pre idea in concept, but it would be easier and faster once we get to the fitment part to have a VFR in the shop. So, if you know of one in the greater Seattle area, maybe the Portland area that may be possible to borrow for a couple months, send them my way. Thanks

You're gonna "build a better mousetrap"?

Can you reveal anything about the design goals? Is is a racing-only pipe? Or is it for street use, meant to fix/overcome existing flaws/shortfalls in the OEM header?

Yep.... just a short note, if that possible. Ever since the TYGA build got moving then stalled, the maybe there was hope, then nothing, it came to me, awe H, I could make one up. so started looking at what it would take, I'm familiar with tubes and all, then a good friend of my sons turns out he went to CA. after school to work and play in drifting culture, where turbo manifolds where needed to put X engine in X car. We met over the turkey day holiday and talked about things and he goes, damn I can build one of those in my sleep for ya. I go, meh, maybe, then saw his work bota bing, bota boom! . So to answer your question Yes and no, Yes street. Of courses if it's good for the street then the track is no problem. the idea here is to straighten out the stocks flaws. I've been looking for a 2bro for two years along with an Erion to no avail, I've talked with those company's, for the most part the request of them making one fell on death ears. So now I'm moving forward. big trick is seeing how close I can get to the flow rates of the Erion with also fixing some fitment issues, then of course the dyno don't lye.. so nothing gets done with out effort. a couple pics of Gabes work..

    Holy kachinskys, what beautiful work!
I could practice for a decade and not get to that level of perfection.

    Good luck with the project.

My guess is that tube benders cost mucho pesos and hard to pass that cost along to the client. Labor can often cost a lot too but probably easier to convince someone that their hand built exhaust is a labor of love, vice "Yeah, my tube bender machine can do that but it'll still cost you mucho pesos cause I'm still paying for the damn machine!"

Yea I've wondered if there's not a happy medium here with bend vs pie cut , but this ain't Nasa funded.

Does this mean I spent an entire morning on EBay looking for one of those big tube benders to just find out they cost mucho pesos? Now I have another problem. I suppose now I have to shelve buying that new CNC lathe for 25k to knock a few ounces off the driveshaft on my BMW.

Just for shits and giggles since you as I, live and have access to dozens and dozens of aircraft subcontractors literally a phone call away, there might be someone out there that has amortized one of those bigass tube benders?

My response was not directed at the OP, who obviously applied skills and labor into a finished project without any help from me, you, NASA or the peanut gallery. The question now is, if the OP had access to one of those not so hard to find tube benders that will bend thinwall stainless tubing, might he have done so?

If you are wondering, that evidences your homework is not adequate to the task.

Tossing out figures of 3K for a set of headers on a bike that is not worth much more than that and then soliciting to borrow a set of stock headers makes me think that most of this on your part is a pipe dream.

Why not just let "Gabe" do all the work since some of that tubing on that turbo set up has tubing that is both bent and welded. It's patently obvious that "Gabe" is more that adequate for the task and knows his shit.

Doh! funny funny. We got talking and one knows how conventions go. Gabe brought up, wanta make it Ti ? I say yea right, $$$ He comes back and says, no really, let me check it out.. LOL. which come to find out is right there with the race version Akro Ti system for the RSV4. In that I can agree, Nice, but a pipe dream, I'll give you that one . Gabe has the go ahead. I'm just the one that's pointing the directions from what he comes up with. He is a pretty sharp tack with old school craftsmanship with new tech ways. Oota be something to see for sure. but the bigger part is it needs to work as well as the 2bros / Erion systems. maybe even better? That won't be known for a while. but that's the goal and the reason why this is happening. I'm tired of all the broken BS saying a header is coming.

You're gonna need a shitty camera and mount and a GPS tracker to find out how good the exhaust works though.

It's the size of that pipe. Standard benders don't go that big, and you'll never recoup the cost for one that'll handle that diameter unless you do a ton of specialty work.

I got a camera mount, not sure how shitty it is though. GPS Tracker? Not sure I want to be tracked ;)
