I know that on the 5th gen models you could get a stash box type deal to go behind the license plate. Is anyone aware of something similar for 6th gen models? I'm looking for something big enough to stuff my rain gear in (maybe the size of a small shoebox).

If I can't find anything, I'm considering fabricating one. I'm thinking about utilizing the stock rear fender that everyone likes to get rid of. I think that a box can be made to fit between the mufflers, and go in as deep as that crossover. Removing the fender and triming a little... put a hinge at the top of the fender, and a key lock behind the plate so that it would swing up giving access for a decent amount of storage.

It's just a thought so far, as I intend to purchase hard bags in the near future. I just think something like this would be convenient. Your rain gear would always be there. You wouldn't have to decide anymore wether to pack them or leave them behind to fit something else like say a camera or something.

I like your idea, just make some heat shields for it though. And I have to say once you get your hard bags you'll never take them off. I never knew such bliss was possible....

It would be hard to stash much under the seat I'd think with the momo backbone frame the 6th geb has. That wide frame running down the center nder the seat takes up all the room. I've never seen a 5th gen with a stash box, so I may be mis understanding what your saying. I agreee with goinphaster, I just picked up a 6th gen, with hard bags. They're awsome, and the bike handles as if they weren't there; even two up riding. Good luck.

The hard part i'd think would be the mono backbone frame down the center. It would be nice to have a little more room under the seat. I've never seen a stash bag on a 5th gen, so can't say too much. I just picked up a 6th gen with hard bags and it's awsome. The bags hold so much and you don't even know they're there, even two up riding. Good luck.

Consider picking up an eBay seat and cut the passenger section off. Use your tail cowl and there's plenty of storage room where the passenger seat used to be.

I can take pictures from my gen 5 if you want to see how much room there is (gen 5)

    Hi Jerry
If you could work something out that went behind the licence plate, I would buy one off you.... in fact I might even try to make one myself. I know what you mean, the underseat storage is non existent. A tank bag is good, but not secure - a top box is too big, hard side bags are just OTT for those wee essentials, that you only want, when you really NEED them NOW.

I appreciate the input guys. It doesn't sound like there's anything available, so I'll start fiddling around and see what I can come up with. I might sketch something out and post it to get some opinions.

Maybe we can share or combine ideas. I work with a guy named Adam Woods. He rides an R-6 though. You're from the UK?

That would be great - do you have the Scottoiler system where you are - its an automatic chain lube system - they can have an underseat oil tank - or one that goes behind the licence plate - see http://www.scottoiler.com/support_guide4.asp - this looks as if it is only about 1" deep - I see no reason why it couldn't be at least twice that
