Im still very new to the VFR world, having put just over 2000ks (3k on the ODO) on my 1200 and reading a lot of great info in this forum ive decided I need to do something about the horrible 1st, 2nd gear issues, along with gaining a few other benefits that come with it. Im leaning towards the Guhl re-flash as it seems to be the way to go(according to this forum), only downside is, Living in Aus, it's going to mean a few weeks without my bike. So ive also looked into the Power Commander and the Bazzaz options. Has anyone had experience in this decision or able sway me either way ? I have ridden a few bikes recently with quick shift kits, and im sold! Not for racing or anything like that, they are just awesome IMO even for the daily commute, so thats another reason i was looking into the Bazzaz ZFI with shifter option. Ive just ordered a Pipe which should turn up in a few days, so ECU is next on the list... after telling myself im not going to spend any money modding this bike (who was i trying to fool). So i look forward to hearing some thoughts. Thanks. EDIT: After spending more hours reading lastnight I see there is Ecunleashed here in Aus that I guess do the equivalent of the Guhl flash, but at around $600?? im still unsure what is the best option.

    I'm following this thread.
I'm also in Aus and can't find any info on the ecunleashed option.
I have fitted a healtech QS to my bike and it's fantastic.
    $400 including harness from www.superbikesupply.com.au
I still mostly use the clutch from 1st to 2nd as it's a heavy box but from then on you'd swear it was an auto at cruising pace.
My wife loves it as well as we don't butt heads on gear changes.
I've just fitted a delkevic short pipe and it's glorious.
[IMG]video doesn't do it any sort of justice, it is LOUD and crackles like crazy on deceleration. https://vimeo.com/201618335
What pipe did you go with?
Back to ecunleashed, they claim to do everything the ghul does but there isn't any information on their website, buggerit, I'm gunna call them.

So close to getting the Delkevic, and a mate talked me into the Laser I had found on Gumtree. Was a good price. Same guy also has a Akrapovic too, but couldn't justify twice the price for it. I actually prefer the look of the laser and wanted something dark in colour to go with the bike, so hope it sounds as good. Let you know in a few days. So back to the ECU, if you have a piggyback unit already, why are you still interested in a reflash... What are the benifits with either or?

Recent ride with the mate that talked me into the Laser.

Hi I have only test ridden an 1200 DCT with Power Commander I did not like it at all. However...... this may just be me. I did not like it because I lost the rear at traffic lights - now this was in the wet (UK!!! :( ) but it seemed to over ride the traction control which was allegedly on. This may not be a problem in OZ though.

    G'Day mate.

Yeah nice one ghostknife, I saw that on gumtree as well and shared it on the vfr1200 Facebook page, did you see it there?
The healtech is a stand alone QS unit not a ecu piggyback. [IMG] this is the unit, you connect it to the coils and the shift rod[IMG]but the front coils take a bit of getting at[IMG]
I tried calling ecunleashed yesterday but the number they have listed on their website is wrong so I sent them an email, I'll post the reply.
I'm interested to hear your thoughts on the laser pipe once you've fitted it, I very nearly brought it.

Ha, Sorry completely misread that. Just saw the Healtech name and read it as Haltech assuming it was fuel management. I will have to look into one of those, very keen.. perhaps before the ECU upgrade. My mates MV Dragster RR has QS for down shifting aswell - really neat, blips the throttle for you. I was going to email ecunleashed today, keen to hear their reply. Didn't see the FB post for the pipe, just found it on gumtree. $420 inc post. Checking the tracking status every 5mins. Lol. Can't wait to hear it.

    Hahahahaha
Yep, I drove 200km to pick my pipe up last Friday as it wasn't going to be delivered until the following Monday, I had to have it.
I've ridden a dragster 800 and what an awesome bike, no good for luggage or pillions though.
The brutale 1090 is a whole other level.

So my Healtech QS is on the way - I blame you ozzybob !! got it from the site you suggested, cheapest place around. Looks like im going to have a fun weekend fitting the QS and pipe. Do you have any tips to make things easier? Also thought i'd hit you up to post a pic of the App settings you are running for the QS. Be a good place to start I imagine. And im assuming you haven't received a reply from ECUnleashed yet ?

    Hey Ghostknife.
I'll run through the operation tonight.
Do you have a service manual?
If not I'll send you a link to a free copy.
When I did my QS I took lots of photos of harness connector positions etc so I had a check list for reassembling the airbox etc.

Oh and if you're going to fit an aftermarket air filter, now is the time.

That is the link from another thread. I hope it works.
I think I had to get some sort of software for it, I can't remember.

Ignition interrupt quick shift. I bet that sounds awesome on the gear changes. I have a fuel cut quick shift. It get the job done well, but I would love to have the ignition cut noises to go with. Very jealous :)

The VFR1200's are Fly by wire throttle and they are limited this way as well. You twist the throttle grip 100%, but the throttles only open say 80% at certain speeds and gears. Most piggy backs can only tune fuel mapping, with no ability to eliminate throttle or ignition restrictions (sometimes a separate ignition module is available). The Guhl reflash will remove the throttle limitations and correct the fuel/ignition mapping. Power commander and bazzaz can not do this.

Thanks for clarifying that Candy. The reflash is the way I want to go then, No Luck from an Aus source on this yet... but will keep looking into it. Ozzy, Got my QS Module and pipe lastnight, fitted the pipe up and sounds great but not so happy with the look... way too long for my taste. Going to get the grinder out on the weekend i think.. and cut it down !! After i fit the QS.

    Hahahahaha excellent.
That's why I went with the shortest pipe I could find, less is more.
Post some pics of your pipe once it's been on a diet.

Hi ozzybob, did you ever get a reply from Ecu unleashed, I am very interested in having this done to both of our VFR1200s, I have a 2015 with an Akro and have just fitted a DAM to my wifes 2016 (made a great difference but still have the 1st and 2nd gear probs)

    Hi Sporty
I never heard back from ecu unleashed so I gave up on that idea.
Ghostknife is sending his ecu over to ghul, I'm looking forward to hearing what he has to say about it.

I went through this with ECU Unleashed in 2013 when they advertised in the USA that they had a re-flash for the VFR 1200. Waste of time. They gave me a dealer in Texas who was supposed to be able to re-flash my ECU. Called that dealer and he said they did not have a re-flash from ECU Unleashed for the VFR-1200. They then referred me to a dealer on the east coast who said they not only didn't re-flash ECU's but had never heard of ECU Unleashed. I have repeatedly asked on this and other VFR forums if anybody has had a successful ECU re-flash from this company on a VFR 1200 and never got a response. This company does other bikes and cars but as far as I can tell has not cracked the code for a re-flash on the big VFR. Don Guhl is a known quantity who has done many successful re-flashes. He is the real deal and you can count on him re-flashing your ECU with the options you choose and turning it around for return in a couple of days. Just my opinion but fooling around with ECU Unleashed for a re-flash on this bike is a waste of time.
