K&N has a new advertisement: "Learn to drift with K&N" Only cost the price of a filter.

You've never tried it but somehow know it won't work ?? Actually, very little (like about an ounce) will leak out, and you have a pan underneath to catch it.

    Endorsed by BB, i believe.

Unless you prefill, the crank and cam bearings are suffering high w ear oil starvation on startup. The filter will easily hold 2/3 quart, and it takes up to 15 seconds for the engine to pump that quantity.

Even better than an endorsement, my R&D crew is coming up with a combination keep the oil off the headers and reclaim that ounce of oil gadget. Watch for one soon at your local HD Boutique.

Think you will find that a lot of the filters are the same apart from the print on the outside of the tin.

as I said above, wrap the headers with foil & it will drain into your catch pan - no loss.

Would you deny me possibly to become a mini Donald Trump over a few cc of motor oil? ;)

It would appear that so far as the K&N filters there might not be much on the inside of the tin.

This of course, would only extend to filters of the total replacement variety. The reusable models are stainless steel and unless engraved don't have much to say print wise.

When I first bought mine (brand new) I was changing mine every 5K km as well. Did that for a year or two. But the good book said 12,000 km. From that point on, I started changing every 10,000 km. Easier to keep track on the 10's. At 202,000+ km, at that oil change rate, I think I have satisfied the engine longevity Having said that, you are not wrong. But you can save yourself a few bucks if you want to and put it towards a trip or two on the bike.

i agree with that. For two seconds before the low pressure light goes out, the engine lubes fine with residual oil. In fact, I ran a car engine for about 30 seconds one time while stupidly forgetting to add new oil after an oil and filter change before remembering and turning the engine off. That car is in my garage right now with nearly 300K miles on it running like new. If you are filing your filter and not putting the oil in the small holes (not the one big one), you're putting the oil in the wrong place. Just put the filter on and don't forget the oil in the crankcase. ; )

LOL, Could you have re-seated the rings? Might be a new technique to increase engines longevity.

I use a Honda Oil filter.

Numerous oil analysis show it works plenty fine.

I know someone else that's done the same thing. Moral to the story is: it can be done but I don't recommend it.....

And I also use Honda OEM filters.....what a novel idea.

Rather than do all that pre-filling stuff and getting oil all over my headers, I just fire up the 91 mach 1 and do a couple of stoppies. Fills that damn filter right up. For those who are not skilled in stoppies, a floor jack works pretty well.

Lots of great info in this forum! An oil change will be the first thing I do when my bike is delivered this week (used 2010 VFR from out of state)

I looked at both the Scotts and the K and P filters. Both $139+. While searching the interwebs, I also found this PC Racing filter on Amazon for $95 shipped. ..

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BYUXCUA/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

It looks identical to the Scotts and K and P. There are 2 in depth video reviews on their website ... http://www.pcracingusa.com/Honda-Street-PCS1_p_18.html

Has anyone tried the PC filter?
