I wasn't saying don't get a different (bigger / better?) tent - I was saying that particular tent may not be the solution, though it didn't hurt to look into it. This is why I was asking for your reasoning so that I could better understand what you were hoping to accomplish.

Well, here's a different angle to look at ... by hiding your motorcycle in the tent, you are possibly inviting a new threat by making potential 'threats' think that you are not in your tent and that no one is around since they don't see a vehicle.

Finally, lighten up with your responses to me, I'm just trying to provide advice and perspective.

Good angle to think of...I hadn't thought of that drawing more attention. Like I said, seems I need to lurk ADVrider to see if there may be advice from people who have had some real experience with one. And watch the vids RVFR posted.

I really don't like being told how I'd be better served. Or assume I need help securing a weapon.

Keep your tent and buy a piece of visqueen that is about 8 mills thick, put 4 rivets in it. 2 bungie cords and a little bag and you have a 6 oz tent for you bike for about $5.00 that takes up very little space.

The reality is that campsites will never 'be safe' for young single females.
Personally speaking, I'd rather you book into a motel on your trips by yourself & save the tenting for when you have company.

Yes this will cost you more money & by definition mean that some trips will not be completed...

Sadly, thats the reality of the world.

We would all prefer you to be safer.

Gator, good idea for moto tent. Cheap and small. Unlike the this subject of this thread.

Diving Pete, I do appreciate the fact you all wanna see me safe. I'm not discounting that. I feel badly I am worrisome to my close friends here.

I wish I weren't female because of the passion I have. I'd actually have a lot more places to stay...as I have been told multiple times I cannot stay at multiple male friends places because wives or gfs wouldn't have it. I'm at a humongous disadvantage that I think none of you guys will understand.

The reality is... for the trips I have the passion for taking over the summer, there is no way I could spend 2 months or more of my take home salary on lodging alone.

And I'm not going to let fear and what ifs get in the way of doing those long trips...and camping which I love...which again, not many people are in to. So another area where I'm a right side outlier on a huge bell curve full of men.

I'm aware I'm at more risk being female and will do what I can to minimize risk and be prudent, but I'm not going to miss out on what I want to do.

Now I will take donations to stay at hotels, motels, hostels, or at my guy friends' homes/yards and they can tell their women to suck it instead of leaving me in the scary wilderness alone. So until the money starts rolling in...I'm sure you all in this thread will be the first to donate ;)...I will camp and do what I can to be as safe as possible.

And I want to make improvements for several reasons in my long-term camping where I can. Hence the topic of this thread.

And how dare you speak for me!!!! I'm into sharing!!! SMH

An old style military parachute half can be fashioned into a small tent. The other half can be fashioned into a sleeping bag. All this in a genuine military survival manual. A few pages on how to deal with the natives too..

Yep, the days of Motel 6 are long gone.

Share all you want. I am not going to share a tent with Lint no matter what you say. ;)

Just FYI since other women are bike travelling and camping in all sorts of places, a service like has been in effect by BMW-MOA for years might present itself.

My best "advice" is keep your travels North of the US/Mexican border.

Have to agree here. At 14 pounds and roughly 20x10, and that's probably perfectly packed(I'd never get it right), it seems like a pretty hefty lump.

AM, as I read through this it is like everything else everyone has an opinion. I have attached a link from the ST-Owners forum that may or may not help. The first section by the originator is very good.

I will say that one area always overlooked by most if not all motorcyclists that travel and camp is overloading the bike. What is the GVW and are we overloading. Many time we don't think so but we do. Just because we can strap stuff to the bike doesn't mean that we should.
