If you are ever up in southern Ontario you have a place to stay. I haven't approved this with my wife but ill save that conversation for when it's needed. I know that she won't have a problem with it though.

Yeah KOA campgrounds are dangerous. I'd want claymore mines if I was staying at one of those.

As for my backpacking tent suggestion, I don't think you'd be able to get that work for the bike due to the door, the floor, etc. Here is another thought though - if you go through your current gear setup, maybe you can shave some weight and space using backpacking equipment, and make room for that big tent? You'd be surprised the difference in space and weight between the stuff made for camping and the stuff made for backcountry (my 2 person tent, for example, weighs 1.5 lbs, and my stove is the size of a thermos and weighs .5 lbs sans fuel).

I also have to chime in due to my vast experience with National Forest, and in general government run wilderness area camp sites, and say that *if* you can get to them, they are absolutely note dangerous. I'm sure you could email a liason at the National Forest service and ask them about it. The incidence of assault of any kind at these types of campsites is miniscule. The dangerous places are, unsurprisingly, the ones close to civilization, close to towns, full of lots of people passing through. The ones that outdoors nuts like me go to in order to camp are probably safer than your own living room.

Don't take my word for it, but if you do want to camp in more NFS campsites and want to know about their safety, please email that area's administrator and ask them - I think you'll hear something similar to what I just said, said by someone in possession of the facts.

I wanted to camp on the lawn of Mar A Lago. I was discriminated against.

I agree with overloading. I'm guilty of that and have been learning ways to pair it down.

The first section was an extremely helpful post for anyone wanting to start up or change their moto-camping ways...like me. It was neat to see that a lot of points I found I agreed with.

For example, the tent size suggestions (I'm small so one-man is still okay for me...it's like I need 1/2 a tent so a one-man is fine for me and gear). Also, pole size and getting a backpackign tent. My current tent is so small it fits in my side bag. Using dry bags for gear (I have kayaking bags) is also something I'll never go without.

Anway, thanks for the thread. This Expedition set-up seems awesome, but I can see where it could not be necessary. I do love the fact that my tent is so small and can be set up and torn down in less than 5 mins. Don't think I could say the same for the Expedition.

BUT IT'S AWESOME! HOME FOR MOTO!

This is awesome to see there may be awesome chicas out there!

I've met several so far and they have been LOVELY. Hope they eventually outweigh the ones that aren't so keen on the idea of a misfit like me invadinig their space for a while.

Maybe that's my problem. I'm not worthy.

To the Wal-Mart shelves for me!

Remember...I'll be sleeping with the TP.

A great many years ago, my bud Doug and I attended the "Ride for Sight" in Red Deer. There were quite a few bikers who were camping at the venue but the couple at the campsite next to ours had one of these cold out tent trailers. The trailer was quite narrow but it unfolded into a huge tent trailer. Definitely would hamper the fun in the twisties and finding a hitch mount for a VFR would likely be non-existent, but still kinda neat.

Looking forward to seeing you once again and so is the rest of the family.

With all this tent talk, so far no TeePees. Those long tent poles could be a problem..

Nice tent, but for the price it should be. Don't see the point for the bike shelter, just adds bulk to the whole tent. Don't see it as practical as a daily use tent.

I have a very discerning plant at my house. It does not like women in the house. You're out AM. Its the back yard for you. I 'might' turn off the sprinklers....

If Longest Dong travels with me, he'd have a Teepee up in no time.

I will respect the plant, but your grass will get it. I'll make sure to bring my swimwear just in case.

A Cherokee once had to pee,
A sight that isn't a sight to see.
    He held till it hurt,
    Came oot of his yurt,
and peed on a neighbor's teepee.
