I don't 'Hate' HD's, I will leave the hating up to others. I was trying to point out Trumps misguided criticism of the 100% tariff, that it wasn't aimed at HD, but all manufactures of bikes over 800cc. India with a population of nearly 1.4 Billion people, I don't think they want full size HD or others to go blasting around the streets. Same for the other nations.
So is he going have a trade war over a safety issue for a company with 6000 employees? Anyone with the $ to get a HD will pay the going price.

My dad is a "Harley guy", lifetime member of the HOG (Harley Owner's Group) in my region and has a bunch of patches and pins that the HD booth gives out to members at rallies.

He jokingly made fun of my "Jap POS" when I bought my first bike (VF500) until he realized that it actually starts when I push the "start" button and I thought he should really install that feature on his bikes. He was quick to roll up his sleeves and help though as I started troubleshooting a bunch of other issues the bike had when I bought it.

Truthfully, he's never been an asshole about the kind of bike anyone rides (although some other members of his HOG seem to think they're in some sort of gang). He's also under no delusion about HDs being "good" motorcycles. I will say though that he has a 1974 police bike with a suicide shift on it and it has a lot of character, it's a real head turner. Plus, I grew up wrenching on it with him because it broke down literally every other weekend. It was good though, I've come to realize that he actually enjoys tinkering more than riding so it's actually a great fit. Come to think of it, he also owns old british and italian bikes which also never run.

We chalk it up as a win if any one of his bikes will fire up for a Sunday morning ride, and that's ok.

All scooter dudes should fall to their knees and thank the Good Lord that dudes on Harleys will, because of technical reasons, never blow past them.

HOG is a trademarked marketing tool by HD. Usual allotment is one HOG group/dealership. Goes back to 1983.

The 1974 "police" bikes were the last side shifters from the factory unless on special order. Suicide shift is not in the official lexicon. Suicide clutches are, as modifications to the rocker clutch levers, hence "Suicide Clutch".

There are sources to modify "some" HDs to side shifters and the appropriate clutch mechanisms.

Some bikes, have both electric starters and kick starters. One in particular are BMW "airhead" Police bikes.

Reading through the comments on the article, harleydoods may be better off with the new owner who will probably fix the sign too.

I hope too the new owner in "adding 30 jobs" doesn't fire the current sales force:

More poop on the "new" Harleys. I thought, why not give this dude a few minutes to clear up some misconceptions about HD in general. Not so! 41 minutes of the party line and a prime example of how to fail at extemporaneous speaking. Zzzzzzz.

You just wait. The Harley dealer will be advertising blow jobs any day now. ; )

Back to another world now.....I doubt if this thread would exist if Harley owners just rode their bikes instead of going around acting like the exhaust noise makes them bad asses. Suddenly, when good people swing their leg over a Harley, they transform into something they fantasize in their minds.....a Billy Bad Ass, with an attitude that can conquer the world single handedly or in a gang when riding with a group. Group riding seems to exponentially multiply this effect.

On yet another note, I half assed looked at Indians at the local dealer and the quality was, to me, very apparently much better than a Hawg. Except for the throttle by wire (what a screw up). I hope Indian gives Harley a hard time because I believe in competition. VFR's need some serious competition but don't hold your breath. I watched a YouTube on the new Duc SS and it looked like everything I wouldn't want if I suddenly had to exchange my VFR for one, except for the weight difference. Makes a VFR seem a LOT better. Come to think of it, if the VFR would lose 75#, it would be a much better bike. A 500# bike is just heavy anyway you sit on it.

Oh my goodness where do I start. May be at the "state of the art" comment or the "big bore engine". It's an under square engine AKA slow reving tractor motor. It's main technology "engine design is from the 1930's! The crank set up won't allow anything past 5800-6000 rpms you don't do that to often for being afraid of picking up engine pieces off the road. Oooh modern pieces like hydraulic clutch yea twenty plus years after others and still only one disc brake up front until recently.

Frame design from the thirty's. Wonder if they ever got the death wobble fixed from the factory? Oooooh state of the art USB plug in's. Now that's technology for ya. The 45 degree cylinder angle. On a V-Twin it takes at least 55 degrees just to start to make power. But then you wouldn't get the potato potato effect along with that archaic knife and fork rod design. The worst in the business. Makes for a lot of torque and no horsepower that's all. Great up to about 70mph then falls on it's face cause there is no horsepower to carry it on. Ever notice how slow the rev up on a dyno?

Four valve heads ooooh high tech there. To bad they only have one carb/throttle body to feed them. The flow is slowed anyways cause the intake manifold bends the fuel all around be for getting to the head. No straight shot here for power.

Oh never mind it's all ignored cause of the bad ass factor. Oh well I might buy one"just to be different" Yea buddy...............

It's GREY by the way. Really "wow". I held back a whole lot too. Hey whatever floats your boat. But don't come up to me talking how great they are. ( with 80+ years of farm design) Plus don't even mention horsepower and Harley in the same sentence because they just don't have it and refuse to even go they because of nostalgia. When a 500cc motorcycle can beat a 1800cc bike that weights 750lbs is pathetic.

Heard a good comparison a while back. A guy on a BlackBird stated A BlackBird racing a Harley is like a F16 going against a Sopwith Camel. LOL right he is. I know there's more to biking than power and speed is what the Harley guy come's back with. Cause they ain't got it and never will have it.

So if they are so good why another bail out by the government by snuggling up to Donald. This will be the third time at the well.
