Has anyone installed a self-cancelling device for their turn signals? I just started riding again recently, and I am forgetting to turn off my turn signals.

Two weeks ago, I had a car start to turn out of a side street in front of me, but stopped at the last minute. After I passed, I looked down and noticed that my turn signal was on from a previous turn.

I came across this unit, and was wondering if anyone has installed one yet?

Some other units have preset timing parameters. This one works off of rider and bike movement and sensors. Seems like a great idea, but would love to get some feedback from other VFR owners. If no one else has tried it yet, I may need to be the guinea pig : )

At $165+- shipped to the US, its not bad... and they offer a group rate for 3 or more units.

I read a few articles and watched a video here…

Glad you didn't get in an accident! Yeah some people make fun of the self-cancelling turn signals on the 8th gen but they work great and besides being just a convenience for lazy/forgetful people they can actually help prevent an accident as your story illustrates.

I didn't realize the 8th gen had them. Is there an easy way to retrofit the 8th gen switch and wiring onto a 7th gen?

Yeah it's not on the USA base model but it does come on the Deluxe model and everywhere else. I still find myself manually hitting the cancel button out of habit about 25% of the time - LOL. As far as retrofitting it from 8th gen onto a 7th gen I have no clue.

Not possible, uses ABS speed sensors and digital controls.

As Above. Cant beat a wee check of the dash from time to time and a poke of the button to make sure they are off.

Self-cancelling turn signals were pretty common back in the 90's but you don't see them too much any more. I liked them, mostly.

Simple task, but sophisticated solution. Sensors read the difference in rotational speed of front and rear wheels to tell when you have completed turn. You might check a local electronics store for an audible alert you wire in parallel with indicator. Mount it inside housing facing down to keep dry.

Best damn turn signal canceller is my left thumb. I stay in Holiday Inn Expresses and ride my bike enough to either not use a turn signal if nobody behind or in front of me or just move my thumb appropriately. Takes no electrical screwing around with the bike. Just minor brain usage. Enter BB......our favorite Barney Fife. ; )

I installed a Kisan Signal Minder on my ST1300 and thought it would make me happy, as on occasion I'd forget to hit cancel and be one of those silly old buggers riding down the road winking at people. The Kisan when activated signals for approx. 10 blinks, then shuts off. The unforeseen problem that I didn't consider is that if you signal too early the indicator will stop just prior to, or during the period that you're making the turn. There have been times when I've realized the blinker was off during mid-maneuver and thumb stabbed the button again, but other times I didn't until I was already through the turn. Not a good feeling.

IMO riding with the blinker on is preferable.

It may be preferable, until the time that moron turns in front of you because he thinks you're indicating a turn. You're not going to turn in front of someone just because they have their turn signal on, but other people don't think that way. And you won't turn until it's clear, so the turn signal shutting off early is just an annoyance. Having it stay on could be much more than that.

Best idea yet, counts flashes and beeps, doesn't shut them off.
