Buddy calls me up about a "free bike". Fuck. He's going for a KZ, but there's an Interceptor there too. Fuck. He sends me the ad. 1983 VF750F. Like I need another one of those. I do see an exhaust though. Kerker 4-1 in a configuration I have only seen once before. Well if it has that, you don't know what other goodies it might have. After telling him "probably not", I changed to "OK I'm in". He's driving his big work van so why not take a look.

Typical thrashed Interceptor. But there is the exhaust. The diameter after the 4-1 section and muffler is huge. He said it was "LOUD". No doubt.

Plus somebody has tapped the oil galley and made a hard line top end kit. I'm interested in what the cams are like (or hopefully "what" they are?).

The bike is still safety wired in some spots. Was hoping to see a shock, but it was stock. It did have this Lockhart fork cap and what feels like stiffer springs. We'll see what's in there eventually.

It also had some virtually new Avons that I only realized after getting it home. It has Accel coils and a Uni air filter. That's about it in any goodies so far. Supposed to get the title but don't really care. If it happens great. My buddy is way more interested in the KZ title so I'll let him keep pushing for them.

    Oh, and... this:

Bike fell over while loading and I stupidly tried to slow it down. Dislocated right hand ring finger and then later found out I ruptured a tendon. So had surgery last Wednesday (2 hours) and they were able to reattach. My tendon was balled up in my palm. I was not expecting to wake up in a cast. The rest of this week until I get the stitches removed and a splint that will free up my forefinger. Yay.

My wife even said as I was leaving, "There's no such thing as a free bike."
    Don't we all know.

Ouch, hope it heals without any residual effects. Never saw the Kerker 4 into 1 system in it's day, quite a find. My 4 into 2 headers are loud!

Weird gauge on the fork, did they do that just to see the pressure they added to the anti dive system?

    Careful.
Every time you are near that bike, watch for signs of bad mojo.
One of my sons finally concluded that the Ninja 250 "was trying to kill him".
He may have been right. Between sons #1 and #2, there were 6 spills (that I know about?), with
the next to the last veritably destroying the front end head-on into a Yukon, and the final blow
blasting the bike as it was being trailered! I was glad to see it go.....

I make this comment only half in jest....

And I wish you a complete recovery from what has to be a painful injury.

Damn, Cap! I really hate to see anyone have tendon or ligament problems. Give me a broken bone instead, any day. That hand was probably going to do what it did, sooner or later, anyway.

That Kerker will look great if you send it off to be Ceramic or Jet Hot coated. Kerker was the exhaust to have in the early 80s. I had one on my old '81 900F.

I have a project for you..... take more pics of that old bike. Find a 16 year old kid, that is reasonably mechanically inclined, and have him help you work on the bike. You get work done, and the kid learns a lot.

    Get well soon.

Had my Kerkers polished, the look great. Used dense furnace insulation to repack.
