Got to give my bike a good shakedown, in a controlled environment. Started out behind a Porsche GT3 RS, then he waved me by and tried to keep up... WAHAHAHAHA!!!!

The change in how well my bike handles is almost hard to describe. Unfuckingbelievable starts to sum it up. The quickness in which it turns and the amount of grip I now have is incredible. I actually felt the front tire moving around in braking into some of the turns. Not sliding, but deflecting, actually moving a little on the rim, well, more like slightly folding. Never felt the rear get loose at all except once braking really hard into a turn and downshifting too hard, because I was carrying so much more speed into the turn. Such an enormous difference and I'm still running the Honda stuff, not aftermarket. Shims above the shock and tops of the forks at 49/50mm, preload at Max front and rear and rebound on the shock a 1/4 turn from max hard. Tire wear is perfect in the rear, no feathering! SO fun to ride now!!!

Running Bridgestone T30EVO at Bridgestone recommend track pressure, 34psi front, 36psi rear. You'll never convince me these tires don't grip. If you have traction issues with them, you must be a fast as fuck rider, cuz these things have stood up to incredible pressures against then and the grab like a cat on carpet!!! That's two $150k+ 500hp plus cars that cannot hang with my Raza. I think she's a keeper.

I know that there are guys out there that can stomp me, I've ridden with them, but they were on 2016/2017 liter bikes that are specifically made for this riding, S1000RR, brand new R1, Aprilia RSV4 Factory. But, for this bike being EIGHTEEN years old, over 74,850 miles on it, with the stock suspension??? It's worth keeping!! I had five people compliment me on how it sounds. It is definitely an eargasm!!!

A few of my friends didn't understand why I chose the 5 Gen as my sport bike versus a CBR or other pure sport bike. It's hard to explain but there's something I just feel when I'm on the VFR that I really love.

Weather was beautiful here yesterday and the forecast is looking even better. Those of you who are my FB friends saw a short video clip of my Saturday jaunt.

I went to the World of Wheels (car / moto show) at the Winnipeg Convention Center later that day. Met a lady who just started riding last year and has a brand new CBR650 as of last year. She just started riding last year. She's been riding dirt bikes since she was 16 and was a great passenger, especially in the corners since she knew what to do.

She had a massive itch to ride but her bike is stuck in a storage container with too much snow on the ground to safely get it out. She should be able to get it out later this week based on what the forecasts are looking like. At any rate, she met up with me and I took her for a ride to help 'ease the pain' so to speak. I have a new riding buddy and friend ... I spent yesterday afternoon burning a tank and a half of fuel over 4.5 hours. :)

I put on a center stand. Had to drop one of the connector pipes to get it in there and everything was filthy, so my 20 minute job took about a half hour of wrenching and an hour of cleaning. Nice to have it though and the exhaust wasn't an issue.

Then I ripped the plastic off the back of the bike, took off the tank, all in preparation for dropping in a new rear shock.

Since the tank was off I decided to rip out the PAIR system, which straight up doesn't work right on my bike. I have to say, the airbox on the 5th gen is a fucking pain in the ass compared to my 3rd gen. And I couldn't get the connector to the airbox sensor disconnected, so it was extra annoying and took way longer than it should have to pull that PAIR shit out of there. Blocked the holes with some plates I bought on fleabay that were advertised as for the bike but aren't exactly a perfect fit. Hopefully the RTV will seal it well enough because I don't want to fuck with that front plate again.

I think I got most of the wires and hoses that were left hanging plugged into random spots on the airbox, now, and got the airbox buttoned back up. Ran out of daylight, though, so I'll finish the shock swap tomorrow. Hopefully I can get the fender out of the way and drop it in. If not I'll find some way of wedging it in there and duct taping it into place, I'm sure. Looking forward to having a bike actually properly sprung for my fat ass!

This past Sunday. I need to get my upper body much lower!

After looking at this picture, I see that I am still too high on the bike and I really need to move my whole body over and off of the bike more. That's probably why I am hitting my boot sliders and not the knee sliders. I'm still way too far up on the center of the bike. Time for more core exercises and more lateral leg strengthening.

I remember Nick Ienatsch telling me in some one-on-one sessions to hang off almost in a "cartoonish" manner. Then hang off some more. Because you feel like you're hanging off way more than you really are.

Watched it get towed away, never to return. Even though things went well with the insurance, it was hard to watch my once beautiful pearl white 8th gen have its haggard and mutilated body dragged onto the wrecker for that long last trip to reaper's fold.

Lint, this is on a two-lane highway, right? You're good.

New rear sprocket, changed to 44T, from a 43T. Should match the gearing of the 1984 salvage engine better. Also replaced a couple of manky fairing screws.

Rode it today (only the second time since I got it at the end of February - had taken it apart after I got it home and have been waiting for parts, installing parts, making minor mods, etc - still not done yet lol) to the DMV and finalized the registration by having it officially inspected and got temporary plates while my personalized ones are being made. Bike ran ok, didn't drop it today and didn't forget to take the disc lock off so so far so good. :)

Bad thing today was my long time instructor, mentor, and friend - Guro Richard Bustillo - passed away just a short while ago... I started training JKD/FMA back in 1988 when he and Guro Dan (Inosanto) were still teaching together under the same roof. Such a huge loss. :(
