I'm on my second vfr750. Both have had rectifier problems. No surprise there. My 1990 just wouldn't start one day. It turned over, just wouldn't start, 10 minutes after it had been running fine. After about the 6th attempt it started and got me the 5 minute ride home. Immediately tried to start. Turned over. No start. Didn't do any tests. Knew the history of rectifier problems for the Vfr so just bought a new one. Fitted it. Started up first time and ran flawlessly until I sold it 4 years later.

Bought a 4th gen. Ran fine but right off the bat but still bought a new rectifier. Kept the OEM as a spare. Ran great for 4 years. 2 years ago was riding and bike broke down. Flat battery. Did all the electrical tests on rectifier and stator. Nothing wrong. Bike ran great again. Ran until end of summer no problems. Started in spring of following year. Wouldn't start, battery toast. Used a spare used battery . Ran fine. But now I put a volt meter on the bike. After a few months wouldn't charge above above ,12.8 volts. Put another battery in after doing all electrical tests which were fine. Bike ran fine but every so often for no reason when riding the volts would drop from 14.5 to 13.8 for up to 30 seconds.

Last fall took the bike out after it ran normally the day before. Wouldn't read more than 12.8 volts. Parked for winter. Few weeks ago I started bike a few times. 12.8v. Put in my spare OEM rectifier. Immediate 14.5 volts.

In the past from my experience with my original Vfr I thought the rectifier either worked or it didn't. I did not suspect that it could behave intermittently erratic. I'd done the diode tests on the rectifier but it had passed with flying colours.

I pass this along for those who may have or will have in the future the same problems. Bike runs fine now, touch wood.

Which rectifiers did you install in the bikes or who was mfr?

The rectifier I had bought was off the WIREMYBIKE site. At the same time I put their vfrness on. I see now that it is a Ricks electrosport. I see it is sold at Canadian bike site fortnine.ca and the reviews are terrible for it. Maybe I was lucky to get 4 years out of it!

Think so. I have read a few good things about those, but sadly, mostly bad and about the same story as yours.
