Current situation: A good friend of mine dropped my bike in his driveway cul de sac due to his crazy 1inch gravel and him being out of practice. In an effort to not drop it he cracked the left tail fairing....so he's going to get me a replacement. Well as we all know replacements are found used on ebay and they are generally 200+ dollars....not to mention its the waiting game until the one you want comes up. SOOO now that ive got the tail off yet again.....im thinking hard about a subframe swap. Ive read all over several forums, people doing 600rr, VTR, 929rr, first gen F4i, even r6 subframes.....but I've yet to see anyone outright say "ive held up several and X is the easiest to make fit". So far just from looking, it seems the F4i visually looks very close in size and it would also have capacity for the battery etc. Many of these 600rr subs just dont look like they have any space for all the junk the vfr tail has.

Help PLEASE! I can cut with my dremel....i can get bolts at home depot..... i can get some black rubber to cover ugly spots.....and im very crafty, but I cant weld or really do any sick fab work without paying someone out the nose to do it for me.

Would it not be better / quicker to spend the $200 on fixing the tail..

Or are you desperate to change it while its broke?

Shhhhhh...I'm trying to justify it. Lol

But yeah I know....after spending about a good half hour this morning looking at both sides and visualizing how I could tuck and move wires, I could go either way. I removed the passenger pegs and that does clean up the back a little. I just dunno. Would be a fun project bit it's also riding season and I don't want one of those projects where half way through I regret starting it.

There should be a rule that you don't start projects until you have spent time thinking about it... ask me how I know...lol

Ha yeah pretty much. My bike is already a streetfighter just for reference...but I think I'm gonna keep the subrame I guess. It seems the ones that would be an "easy swap" won't actually look that different than stock. I'd love a stubby single seat like on a speed triple, but that requires some serious fab work I would imagine.

    Single Seat

Let me offer you an alternative.

I have a RC211V fiberglass tail with seat from Tyga. I think this the ultimate single seat.

As far as subframe goes, I would suggest a little steel angle and a drill and make your own. Or carbon fiber and epoxy for a really light frame. I even have a 1 pice taillight/license plate holder you could mod to cover necessities.

And the price is a deal, too. Make me a decent offer and pay shipping.

Appreciate the offer but I got a really good deal on a "like new" tail fairing and i took it. No modding of the sub frame for now. I have always thought when it comes time for a new bike, I might do a vfr fighter the REAL way with cbr forks and bobber seat etc etc. Got some time to think it over now...
