So after just riding the bike a couple hundred miles in various modes and roads post immediate updates/upgrades, etc; I finally decided to give the flapper, snorkel, and pair mod a shot and see what if any felt or otherwise differences would occur.

Within the last 100 miles of riding 25 have been straight line highway and the bike really felt like it wanted to cruise at 5k rpm. Any lower and it would get real touchy not so much a bog per say but something like hesitate. Anyhow now the bike happily cruises at 3k rpm and all the low end "nuances" famous to the 6th gen vfr have seemed to disappear.

It also seems to be considerably quicker all around acceleration wise; however, from vtec cross over to red line it is pulling very hard now. Enough so it made me think twice the first time I went thru the top of second post mod.

Now hopefully I don't get flamed for messing up some perfectly good Honda engineering where clearly a lot of thought went into design and function. I may try to make a fiber glass air-box top replacement with a larger opening and possibly after further investigation a snorkel that is not dysfunctional (imop). Maybe. Some people worry about hot air, but I don't think the stock air box is getting "cold" air to begin with. As far as driving in the rain. So far I don't and have not. If it really is an issue not having the snorkel on in the rain, it is easy enough to retain on the bike in storage with a 8mm wrench XD

Anyhow Figured I would share my results.

Interesting summary! I did the flapper mod on several bikes, including a 5th gen VFR, and never had any bad effects of doing it. When I did the same for my 6th gen I immediately noticed a off-idle stumble and hesitation. I rode it that way for several weeks but didn't like it. Restoring the flapper to stock fixed the stumble and hesitation. Bikes may be different but my 6th gen is a better ride without the snorkel or flapper mods.

Honestly I do not think the flapper or snorkel mod did anything but make the bike not sound like a sewing machine. I think the airbox and intake inlet (tube) could be done better, but there is not a ton of gains to be had as far as "free hp" from most any "modern sport" bikes. I like the noise. I also have a delkavik dual 8" mini exhaust so it works out. I don't commute on this bike it is just for fun, like the boosted cars were. I assure you my daily driver is quiet as can be. :D

I noticed disconnecting the valve probably leaves it open all the time as on decel I get some ignition in the exhaust. I'm only used to hearing that coming off boost in a turbo car... so I ordered the block off plates from fleabay and have decided to just remove all of the related connected equipment from the bike. First I will just add the plates , and leave everything in place so to speak on the bike; capping off the proper vac ports and running the gas vent and water drain hoses down with the others so they will be diverted from the exhaust and rear tire. If that clears it up great. If not then further diagnosis will be needed. The bike runs really well esp with my big but on it. Suppose to be rainy on and off till Sunday, and I have to wait for the arrival of the block off plates. I will update as soon as I get everything in and some miles put it. Sucks I have a set of Diablo Rosso 3's sitting in the next room. I need to stop spending money on other things and get those mounted. Seems like I'm putting off doing the suspension until its colder as I really do not want down time right now. Although I may go ahead and order the rear.

From what I understand I could either put a marble/toothpaste cap in the tube from the airbox and I would lose the naturally aspirated exhaust farting sounds or get the block off plates and not only get rid of the exhaust pop but also the evap and pair system equipment all together. If so the intact system will get put in a box with some care in case I need to reverse it later, or god forbid I ever sell this bike.

Any input is appreciated esp before I start turning wrench on stuff.

I just did the snorkel, flapper, PAIR valve mods today on my 6th gen. So far I noticed the throttle twitchyness is gone. I don't think the bike is any quicker or faster, but it darn sure is smoother.
