Is the engine temp gauge based on coolant or oil temp?

What's the operating and warning temperature of this bike.

It looks like the fans kick in at 100°C

Since Bubba is in the US...normal range is between about 195 and 225 F. Fan kicks on around 220 and off around 212.

Set your dash to display your AVG MPG and ignore the temp readings unless the red warning light (250F) comes on. ;)

Too many people misunderstand the temperature range of this bike and think it's getting hot when it isn't.

I agree and now am constantly looking at the temp gauge, as were in the past before the failure and overheating I did not. I just assumed a year old bike with less than 5,500 miles would not have an issue. I am overly paranoid now about the bike and its performance. It's kinda like "oh f..k what is going to happen today!" I need to get over it. I am also overly paranoid that I did not use motorcycle coolant, change the thermostat, or bleed out the cooling system. Like I stated I did buy a cap from a car parts place and worry about that even though it fits, holds pressure at 16psi. Its a fricken new bike and I am worried to take it on a long ride like I would a car or bike with 95,000 miles on it. But the temp still stays in the 195 F to 222 F range as of date. And who looks at the dash while riding!;-) We should just feel the bike as it goes along. Damn Radiator Cap!;-)

Ducc, is that for me!;-) Does that mean Beer Drinking Bubba is so hell ya. I went out for another ride on the same canyon and the bike hit 228 f . I have never seen go that high and this was at 11,000 ft. But again I have never looked at the gauge as much as I do now!;-)

The bikes run hot but if your fan starts up ormally around the mentioned 220F don't sweat it.

Vtec doesn't kick on till around 150 F. Normal temp is around 180 -220 I've noticed. I don't start riding till it says 100 and I don't get on it till it's up to temp
