    I believe this is a 6G?

Things to check would be the sliding pins for the caliper, these need to be clean and well greased. Next up would be a basic clean of the pistons and seals to make sure the pistons are moving freely. And in any case, have you flushed and bled your brakes recently?

Really depends on wear and as stated above bleeding and servicing the calipers. Recommend inspect and clean - new pads and check the rotor - and a good bleeding and making sure the air is out. Make sure the rear reservoir is cleaned and kept full. And it it is 6g you need to bleed in sequence so that the front brake that is in conjunction is also bled and serviced. If your sure everything is working and in good repair then air is the enemy along with old break fluid and gunk

The rear brake on my '99 was pretty horrible until I switched to HH pads. Now it works very well. I sometimes wonder
if the linked brakes might lead to some glazing since the rear brake is only lightly applied when using only the fronts.

Rear brakes should only be about 20 % of usfull stoppage power. In fact, the only reason to use a rear brake would really be in a panic situation. Actaully, I admit, I do use the rear occasionally while slowly stooping when my hands are resting while stretching sometimes.

I ride a couple of dirt/rock road miles every time I take the VFR out. I probably use the rear brake more than most because grabbing a hand full of front brake is a mistake you won't make twice.

I also use my rear brake to set up for a tight corner.
