Got used to sipping from the Hydropak bombing down Mountain Bike trails years ago.

Have found an small sip with care like on a long straight, through a straight slow speed zone or stationary at a set of lights or road works stop takes no effort and keeping hydrated aid's concentration levels which is a good thing when riding distance in hot weather all of which we have ample in Oz.

It listed by Shoei as a Chin Curtain, see bottom of the below list link:

"I left my Arai in Pennsylvania..."

Left California with an Arai, got back from New York with a Shoei RF1000...
My traveling companion ditched his Arai Corsair after the trip for a new Shoei X11 and says it's noticeably quieter. (The RF1000's are supposed to be the quietest Shoei's.)

By day 3, the nonstop resonance in my Arai was killing me -- even through my ear plugs. If the Shoei fits, go for it.

Not a huge fan of cheap china helmets at all (HJC/ICON/etc). Everyone I know that has a Scorpion, loves it. The new 1000's are supposed to be the quietest on the market (plus the flipdown eye visor when you have the shield up should be cool). I don't think they're actually on the market yet. Maybe someone can confirm. It would be worth checking out if they are.

After 3 years with the RF1000 it was smelling pretty funky. Nothing I tried helped - I tried washing the helmet in warm soapy water, then spraying Fabreze - it just smelled like Fabreze and stale sweat. Arai Quantum 2 lids come with completely removable liners, not just cheek liners. It fits WAY better (i.e. much more comfortable), the shield works WAY better (the Shoei notches don't cut it, I like it just a little open, not a lot - the Arai cracks exactly where you want it and stays there even at 140 mph) it's quieter (no more ear aches) it's WAY better vented (and the vents are much easier to operate), my ear phones went in without cutting, and did I mention it's more comfortable?
I went on ebay and paid $180 for a new from the dealer display model - look around, you don't have to pay anywhere near $500 for a great helmet.

I went with the Shark S650. After 500 miles of touring this weekend, it was very comfy. A lot of bang for the buck($190).

    Ciao

I went to the local dealership today and tried on everything..... I really liked the RF1000.... Perfect fit and a lot more comfortable than any of the other ones there for me. They didn't have my size/color in stock so I didn't get it yet. The solid metallic color worked out to just over $290+tax since I bought my bike there but I did go online and see the graphic for $299. Definitely was worth trying them on at the dealer and doing a little research. What do you guys think of the RF1000 Gobert replica in red. I think it might go with my RWB.

I have a Shoei RF1000 and like it a bunch, but I am thinking that I should have gotten a Multitec since it would be nice to have the ability to flip up the front from time to time. However, Multitec is only DOT rated.

I've always had Arai's and presently have a Doohan replica QII. Fit is good but I get a nice red mark (it actually starts to hurt after awhile) on my forehead after traveling.

I may sell it and get a Suomy....I tried one on at the local dealership and was very impressed.

Wow how'd I miss this thread.

LOL like these two said. One needs to try a lot on, as it needs to fit first..

I myself run with a Shoie X-sp, it's been a great helmet, but at 7 years old I'm starting to look at the new X11, thing is, it also needs to be fashionable too

I'm wearing a Marushin 777. It's OK, but I'm looking for something quieter.
I was told that Schubert's are the quietest helmets - and they also have that sun visor thing internally. so, that sounds good. I wish good helmets were cheaper :) -turgut

Got my RF 1000 today. Great at speed, little more wind noise than my last helmet but a lot more comfortable. The ventilation works a lot better than I thought it would too.

If you have the time and patience eBay is the way to go. Got a brand new Shoei Z2 for $125. Perfect red for my red VFR. Right time right place. Make sure you do insurance as the shield piece broke and the USPS paid for the part and shipping.

One tid bit of information for motorcycle helmet buyers to look for is not what "brand" fits your head, but rather what "model" fits your head. I am not familiar with shoei, but I do know that quantum series helmets fit my big round head, and the more popular rx7 does not. for longest time I wanted the rx7 model because they had the full removable liners. now the quantum 2 does and I can have my cake and eat it too.

I'll be interested to see how the Nolan N102 performs. Of the many helmets I have tried on, this fits me the best (must be the shape of my noggin). But, I am not sure how well it cuts out the road noise compared to the equivalent Symax HJC. Does anyone have experience with the N102? Don't want to spend all that money $450 (Aust) for a noisy helmet.

You know you don't allways have to go for the top name brand. I may get a lot of greif from this but I swear by Fulmers & I will tell you why about 7 years ago I dumped it pretty hard. Bike went into the ditch & I went over the bars at 45MPH + back into the street landed on my Head and slid to a stop on it. The Fulmer only had paint taken off it! Get this I did not even have a headache! So Fulmers are all I let protect this brain pan!
