Hey guys and gals, does anyone know how long a set of tires can stay in storage without worry. I bought a pair of T30evos on sale last year. I put them in my closet for future install. I did not ride that much last year and I think that if I put under 6,000 this year on the set I have on the bike I am good. So, I am guessing the tires where a year old on purchase, and when I plan to put them on that would be about 3yrs on the rubber without pressure or flex on them. Do I need to be concerned and put them on this year? Any thoughts are appreciated.

They're still fresh. You can read the date code on the sidewall to know the exact age. Reckon you could reach out to a representative and inquire as well.

I've heard 8 years in the past but this was considering them being on and in sunlight as per normal use. I think in storage they can last quite a while. They should also be coated with something from the factory and since there's no pressure and in the dark, you should be fine.

If you are storing tires for a length of time, you should put them in heavy duty black garbage bags and tie them off. Store them in a dark, somewhat temperature controlled environment. This greatly reduces the gas-off of the rubber and they will last much longer. Kenny Roberts would put his brand new dirt track tires on the roof of his shed for a while for the opposite effect. He didn't like them too soft and would "age" them for just the right amount of hardness.

Oh and I think they are just fine too.

    Cheers!

In the past I raced my vintage Honda race bike on 8 year old tires. I didn't realise it at the time having just bought the bike, and didn't check the dates on the side of the tires. No problem whatsoever. You'll be fine.

I rode my ST1100 on tyres that were just over 10 years old, the bike had been stored covered but exposed to humidity and salt spray. I took things cautiously at first and kept an eye out for cracking etc, but they were absolutely fine and I so wore them out.
