    No idea AM.
There were some amazing old trees, specially in the more inaccessible places.
Sadly, not many places have escaped the indiscriminate logging of days gone by.
The majestic mountain cedar is nearly extinct in the mountains now.
In Tasmania, the Huon pine is nearly gone as well. There is an old specimen that has its location kept secret as it has been aged to over 3000 years old.
In Victoria, the tallest tree ever recorded became the longest log ever felled back in the 60's.

That is terribly sad. And even more sad to think if we weren't here many magnificent creatures still would be.

One thing I will never forget is being in awe when seeing the huge forest trees on Vancouver Island. And then while making my way around the island I just see lots and lots of logging.

Now I don't know anything about the logging and deforestation laws and what they are doing to replace those trees or how much they can cut down. Canada is beautiful and I'm sure they are doing their best to make sure it stays that way.

But it didn't help seeing it.

I will be seeing Vancouver island for myself at xmas.
My oldest daughter is going to the university of British Columbia later this year, and since it's the first time the family has been apart, we're all going for a white xmas together.

Ya gotsta get out of Vancouver to enjoy a white Christmas. Vancouver Island is even less so. Except Mount Washington , near Courtenay/Comox has had a tremendous amount of snow for the past few years. Watch out though. The cowboys flying the CF18 Hornet out of Canadian Forces Base Comox like to buzz that ski hill from time to time. Kinda makes you squirt if you are not prepared.

In BC, all logged areas must be re-planted with seedlings. Not much is left totally to nature, mind you, mamma nature is pretty good here at rejuvenating our forests. Massive clear cutting does not take place as blatant as it once used to. Most of the land is Crown land or government land.

I'm not expecting snow at Vancouver, but there will be snow at Whistler.
My daughter has already organized a yearly pass for herself, and I'm sure we will find many other places to ski.
Maybe you can rig up a snow making machine at your place Randy, and we will visit.
    I'll bring the wine.

    Back to pohotography...
I've visited this place a few times now trying to get a good shot, but so far I'm not happy.
Used my 14mm lens this time, but I think its too wide, will visit again on a cloudy day with my 23mm and 35mm lenses and see how I go.

Do you pour the really hot hot-sauce directly into those raw pink tacos first?

Yes. I always shoot in raw or raw plus jpeg. Can I ask why you ask?

I'm confused, is this a play on Gator's question or did the colors render wrong and make the shrimp look pink?

The highlights are a bit over exposed. Raw images have so much control that you can easily tone down the highlights while still leaving midtone detail and shadow detail at their proper levels. When just shooting Jay pegs it’s a lot more important to shoot with a Camera profile that captures what type of dynamic range you want. Sometimes you want more contrast, sometimes less. Sometimes more chroma, sometimes less. And raw you can change all of that after you shoot it.

Maybe you're the one that can finally help me. The photo was shot in raw editing in Lightroom on a wide gamut calibrated monitor. Lightroom was used for exposure only. The photo was then exported as a PSD file. After final editing in Photoshop, I converted the photo to srgb and saved as a jpeg. The Overexposed highlights appeared only after converting to srgb. I noticed this more often than not when converting profoto colorspace to srgb. Profoto being what Adobe recommends for wide gamut monitors.
I'm curious which web browser you're using. On my phone the photo looks pretty good. In Firefox with color management turned on it also looks fairly good. However Chrome, which doesn't use color management, tends to overexpose the image. This is very frustrating any help you can provide or insights you have will be very much appreciated.
