Name me one major motorcycle maker that specifies to USE CAR TIRES on there bikes?

There is instantly all of your practical experience & evidence. These bikes are tested with tyres to deliver a 'set level' of performance. If you put on the remoulds from your Fiesta do you SERIOUSLY expect to get improved performance>?

No attacking at all - just because 1 lemming jumps off a cliff doesn't mean I will.

If you want to know and find out answers to your questions, all are provided in the links that I posted in my previous post, 33 pages of discussion on the same topic, plenty more in other forums on the internet.
Do you own research before you assume anything.[/QUOTE]

I don't need to - I read the handbook from the bike maker who has done far more testing in multiple conditions than you will ever do.

Do you tell them you have car tyres on a motorcycle?

I can, Its in the title - its for cars.

Please play nice boys. This is the new world of men, women, non-binary, and most frightening of all, a world of Randy's.....so one must try to tread more carefully lest feelings get hurt, and we are forced to bring out the crayons and coloring books (I think SOW has eaten most of the crayons).

Thread starter asked for info on darkside operation, I provide my experience with the topic.

If you have nothing to contribute, don't post; simple as that.

Speculations, assumptions without practical experience are just that; if you believe something without evidence, you are stupid.

If you ignore the evidence of over 13 million miles already logged with car tires mounted on motorcycles, with zero issues; that's ignorance.

Go darkside, don't go darkside; makes no difference to me, but just like you said: can't fix stupid.

I'm glad I'm not afraid to try new things.

Geeze, you got criticized for wondering if someone is using a car tire on a sport touring
motorcycle. If you're going to post such specious tripe, then get used to criticism. Car tires
may work on heavy touring bikes that spend most of their time straight up. But just looking
at the design of the bike it's obvious that no one is going to put a car tire on a VFR. And not
on any bike of a sporting bent.

You might have better luck and more positive posts on one of the HD or GoldWing forums.

But even this isn't proven. Far more miles have been done on motorcycle tyres on motorbikes than car tires on motorbikes.
I accept that it may be possible to fit car tyres onto some bikes.it doesn't mean that they WORK. It just means that:
    1. someone out there believes that they know better than both the tyre maker & the bike maker - lol
    2. They don't understand about rotational weight or tyre compounds or how a bike suspension uses a tyre.
    3. They are too tight to spend the money on a bike tyre.

Criticism would be warranted if coming from someone who knows what they are talking about.

Whatever your profession/hobby/interests are, would you take criticism from someone who has zero experience on your personal knowledge or experience?

It's ok to criticize if actually know what you're talking about and have practical experience riding car tire mounted on your bike. Anything else is just speculation.

I never said that Darkside is for everyone.

I never insult anyone for their experience on any topic that I have zero experience.

I don't assume that anyone with different experience than mine is stupid or needs to be criticized.

BTW, plenty of FJR riders use car tire on the rear wheel.

Let's examine that with a little more science.

Name any insurance company that is cool with this?

Show me any race team that uses them?

What road safety organisation says this is a good idea?

Name any major motorcycle manufacturer that endorses it?

Name any tyre manufacturer that recommends it?

Tell me your stopping distances compared to the manufacturers?

Show me any bike that has its suspension 'designed' for car tyres?

Show me any motorcycle that has wheels 'designed' for car tyres?

Show me ANY REASON OTHER THAN MONEY why you would do this?

As a btw I did read your links - it's I also use my 33 years of riding in every weather to try and understand why people try and find more ways of killing themselves.

According to you, one cannot criticize something if they've never tried it. I've never tried contracted VD, but I
can still say anyone who does is unwise. I've never tried skydiving without a parachute, but it sure
looks like a very bad idea. Your on the wrong forum to talk about car tires on sport bikes. And I'll
continue to say that while it can be done, that doesn't necessarily mean it should be done. They call them car
    tires, not motorcycle/car tires.

You can put a silk evening gown on a pig, but it's still a pig. Put a car tire on a motorcycle and it may go around
a corner, after a fashion, but it still is going to handle like shit. Period, full stop.

Now go bother the GSXR forum for a while, they probably won't be as nice as we are. LOL

Look at the tiny contact patch!!! NONE of that tread is designed for that load. Can he ride it? Yes, Is it anywhere near optimal? No, and I do not need actual experience with a car tire on a bike to know that. Just a rudimentary understanding of tire design and physics. Just as I can use the wrong tool and make it work, but it was not designed for it, ergo, much less effectiveness and a very slim safe operating window. I could drive thumb tack into my drywall with my computer mouse. Doesn't mean I should.

I know that there are people who do this. There are people that let their kids sit in the back of their car without restraints. Never a problem until it is and I have personal experience with that from when I was little. My head hit a big ass rock when the car I was in tumbled down a hillside. Had I been buckled in, which really wasn't done then, I wouldn't memory of my forehead getting smacked by a big ass rock that broke though the window. There is no way in hell that anyone will be able to convince me that on a wet road, in an emergency stop or turn, that is a safe idea. His front tire has at least 2X contact patch that his rear does in that lean. The front tire is specifically engineered to have an increased contact patch when the bike is at lean and the rear tire is specifically engineered to not even be on that machine. Again, people do it. People also smoke cigarettes and drive drunk, regardless of the millions of proofs over the past five or six decades that it's a dumb ass idea. Additionally, experience isn't needed here. Physics never lies. There is no subjectivity to this and innumerous articles have been written about it in motorcycle mags.

I suppose that a Goldwing could ride the Dragon with that tire, but I can guarantee you that the bike cannot be pushed anywhere near it's limits with the wrong tire. Hell, about a month ago I ran a sports touring tire on the track at Streets of Willow Raceway. I had to hold way back and I still had the rear of my bike sliding around. Next time I arrived with Q3+ tires and it was a completely different experience. My lean angle was greatly increased and my lap times were greatly decreased. Had I ridden the same way with the Michelin Pilot Road 4 tire as I did with the Dunlops, I guarantee that my knee pucks would be worn down for a very different reason.

I know that I sound like a total dick. I apolgize for that. There is no wayI would ever do this, nor would anyone I know. I ride to a lot of very popular motorcycle places here such as The Rock Store on Mulholland and Neptune's Net on Pacific Coast Highway. Both places have a LOT of bikes, but I have never seen one there, including on any of the Harleys, of which there are many!

It's a free country, roll your own roll.

    Speaking of CONTACT PATCH differences.

Car tires are designed to withstand forces well beyond the forces that a motorcycle can generate..
by you rational of "Designed" application of car tire on motorcycle is well within the car tire's DESIGNED tolerances.

Yes, it is a free country, just because there is no way you would do it; doesn't mean anyone else doing it needs to be insulted for doing so.

Just because you don't know anyone who would do this, doesn't mean there not others who do it safely without problems.

Just because you have never seen anyone out there doing something, doesn't mean that there isn't anyone doing it.

To blindly believe that something can't be done safely with evidence provided in front of your eyes and plenty of resources available for you to do your own research, yet still refuse to believe the possibility... that seems to me, is stupidity & laziness.

No skin off my nose Lint, I only posted a pic I came across on the internet. I’ve read what there is to be read regarding dark siding. I was interested to hear cat0020 s views and experiences on the subject as it’s not a common practice in the UK as far as I’m aware.

It’s not something I would do either, but I’m not going to flame someone because they have tried it. We wouldn’t be where we were in the world today if it wasn’t for the people who experimented with stuff and went against the findings of the many.

You're going to go riding on fire roads, and a little singletrack. You have your choice of bikes:
a GoldWing, a GSXR 750, or a DT250 dirt bike. Why would you choose the dirt bike over the
GoldWing or the GSXR? Probably because it's the best choice for what you want to do. You
could use either of the others, if you were a good rider anyway, but would it be much fun? No
it wouldn't, it could be done, but not easily, comfortably, or safely. Now apply this logic to your
    choice of tires.

My sentiments exactly. I love experimental and unorthodox ways of doing things. Without experimenters and people who try to put a square peg in a round hole, I also do not believe that we would be we where we are today. Plus it would be a lot less interesting.

I will be honest though, all of my years riding and I have not ever heard of the term "darksiding" in regards to a car tire on your bike until now. Seen many a car tire on a bike, but never knew term for it.
