Well, technically my North Rim trip was two days, but that's "a couple" versus "a few". Semantics. I am planning on leaving Phoenix, maybe stopping in Vegas, then through Death Valley up the east of the Sierras, Lake Tahoe, then ???*, then back down the coast, Homboldt, 101, PCH, probably all the way down through LA before turning east and heading back to AZ. As for that ???*... The original idea was later in the year. like September, due to the wife's schedule. But I have realized that I still have 7 days of vacation left that expires July 14th. So, I could plan to start on the 7th, then use another 7 days if need be, and make a 14 day trip! I could theoretically go up to touch Washington! My boss is an iron-ish butter, and says Oregon is beautiful riding. But I don't really know jack. His #1 advice is waterproof gear. Which I have none of. Enlighten me, people! What should I see? What should I pack? What to expect? How to sleep? I brought a tent to the North Rim, but even then had to reserve a spot in advance. I'm checking out airbnb's and they don't look too hateful. It was more feasible for just the shorter trip though. 12 days of it would get pricey. As for packing, I'll try to upload my current toolkit. I plan on reusing clothes. Wonder if I should do moto pants?
Piece o'cake. Here's my route, as best I can remember, from 2 weeks, scratch that closer to 3 weeks now that I think about it, in the summer of 1977, and here's my ride: So don't obsess over the details too much, just take some duds, some money, and have a good time.
