Helped my Brother-in-law replace the clutch on his 2012 BMW R1200RTP. Holly crap!! Had no idea what was involved. Had to literally split the bike in half. I've got parts scattered all over my garage. We are 4 hours into it, got it apart and we've ordered parts. I will never again complain about ANY repair on the VFR again. 20180527_173913.jpg 20180527_173940.jpg 20180527_174127.jpg

That does appear to be a bit of a cluster fuck.

Wow, crazy. But think of the money saved. If you had to get a dealer to do it, you might be better off to just get a new bike. And not a BMW after all that. :Der:

Wow, those transverse engines can be a pain. I remember we had to change the alternator on an old
Gold Wing one time. You have to drop the motor from the frame to do it, even though the alternator
hangs off the back of the engine. The frame interferes with one bolt so you can't get the alternator
    cover off.

Just a suggestion: get one of these https://www.harborfreight.com/automotive-motorcycle/lifts-stands/motorcycle-wheel-chock-69026.html
They work a hundred times better than the stock front wheel clamp, and you can bolt them right on.
    Works a treat.

Dealer charged him $2800 on his last BMW clutch 2 years ago looks like he'll have about $700 in parts and "special" BMW fluids this time.

That looks like a winner. Just got the lift for this job. Could not have done it with out it. Brother-in law bought it for me in exchange for labor. I think he made out on this one!

Been there, done that on a few Oilhead BMW myself... once you get the steps down, it's not too bad, those bikes have pretty good modular design.
