Nice bike, but that price sure seems outrageous to me. I bought my '99 in 2000 for not much more than that.

$5500 for an 18 year old bike, regardless of the miles, just seems high. Hell, the first thing you'll need to do is
spend another $300-$400 for tires. So now you're looking at almost $6000. Too rich for my blood.

Did you ever stop to consider that Honda isn't making 2000 year model VFR 800s any mote? So if you want one today you're gonna be buying used no matter what.

This bike isn't for you, obviously, because all you see is a used motorcycle. It's for someone who always wanted a 5th Gen when they were new but couldn't have one (wife, kids, mortgage, jobs, no garage, etc.)

I don't know if you've ever been involved in the classic car world but there's an old bit of wisdom that says you should buy the best condition car you can, because trying to go on the cheap always ends up costing more in restoration than you would've spent on the super clean low miles car.

It's missing the Frankenbolts. Wonder if I can talk him down to $3000 because of that?!

Seriously, I'd rather have a bike with more miles on it. Garage kept and pampered by a collector sounds nice on paper, but every bit of rubber will most likely be dried/drying out.

Just for reference, I just bought a very similar 2000 VFR800 for $3900. It had been owned by the same guy (now an old man), since new. It had 4000 miles on it, and had been stored in his attached, heated garage for its entire life. The tires looked and felt fresh, but when I took them off out of an abundance of caution, they showed a '99 born-on date. Good thing I changed 'em out, eh? I'm mildly worried about the rubber bits and things like the thermostat, but the original owner changed the coolant, air filter, oil and brake fluid in the recent past. The bike starts at the touch of the button, and runs and rides fine, with the exception of what I suspect are slightly compressed/sagged springs, which are in the process of being replaced as we speak. Of course the forks will get flushed too. I bought it because I wanted a VRF with gear-driven cams, and my bike was the cleanest, lowest-mileage one I could find. It was nice that the price was not outrageous too..

Nice purchase. I would happily pay that amount of money for what you got.

    Hey! I resemble that remark.

Got a message yesterday that Jamie @ DMr was done with my rear shock. (Re-spring and re-valve) Now that like-new 2000 VFR800 should be a lot more, "like new" ;-)
