It is very sad to hear, but every year they lose 3 or 4 riders.
I can't belive they allow it to continue.
I know we're a bit of a nanny state here, but it would have been stopped here the second year it happened.
Most race riders complain about a corner that is considered dangerous on any track.
So I can't believe riders are willing to risk their lives there every year.
Most of these riders leave wife and kids behind, to me this is either stupid or selfish.

Its a bit like saying a few riders were wiped out in several road accidents lets ban bikes.
It clearly shows you know nothing of the road racing scene ( ROAD not circuit).

How many riders are killed globally every year participating in circuit events?

Bet you still watch racing on the TV and enjoy the spectacle of these riders dicing it out on road or track.

In the U.S. the situation is just as full of nonsense (on both sides of opinion).

And the situation follows the logic (?) of the old Joseph Stalin quote: "One death is a tragedy; a million deaths is a statistic"

Because we (the U.S.) have built up an incredibly sprawled out urban-to-suburban-to-exurban-to-countryside set of lifestyle options that are connected primarily (or solely) by roads, we have ended up with a year-on-year death toll of that averages around 30,000 lives. We almost completely ignore this statistic because, well, it's a statistic, but mostly because we realize (somewhere down deep inside our national psyche) that this is the aggregate cost of our lifestyle (a lifestyle we're very accustomed to and happy and comfortable with)

But our media will go to great lengths to wip us up into an emotional frenzy over a single (tragic) death on any given road.

Can't believe I am finding a quote of Joseph Stalin to be so incredible!. But what he said is spot on. I think I will add that one to my signature block here.
