Nice video! Your bike sounds great!

I’m still chasing down several issues in the ‘85 VF 500 I resurrected, so I wanted to ask a couple questions.

Your bike sounds really good - so I’m curious if you know the idle setting. I’m sill fiddling with mine to get it to idle between 1200- 1500rpm

I noticed your neutral light looked like it was working, mine sometimes works sometimes not, do you happen to know if there are typical areas where the switch or wires are prone to wear? I think I have a short somewhere.

Your video inspires me, when I have some time I think I’ll do a video too. Thank you!

Thanks, John. Here's a link to the 'needles and seats' post: http://vfrworld.com/threads/replacing-needles-seats.54366/

In this thread jeremy62 gave me great advice with the low speed/idle problem I was having. http://vfrworld.com/threads/86-500-slow-speed-jet.54685/#post-578079
If you have the 38 size pilots, you're running lean. That causes the inconsistent idle. Switch to the 42s. Part number is in the thread.
The instrument panel is one big panel, a solid circuit board. You might disassemble it and clean it up. It plugs into the harness. Clean all the posts, male and female, in the plugs. Remove the bulb. Clean it and the plug in contacts. Old circuits can lose solid clean connections and lose conductivity. Ergo, they go on and off for no apparent reason.

My video was shot with a Panasonic Lumix, about $150. I built a camera mount on my helmet, so I can place and point it where I want. What I look at, is what you see. My post work was done in Final Cut Pro X. I adjusted the contrast and brightness using broadcast quality scopes. Altered the color balance. Applied a sharpening filter. I adjusted the sound track to tone down the loudness of some sections. I left the EQ alone.
    Keep working on your Interceptor!

Thank you for that information, I will probably dig into the carbs again and possibly have them professionally cleaned and switch to the 42 jets. After reading, riding, and then thinking through all the discussions I have a better appreciation for how precise the carbs on this bike need to be to get the bike to shine, it's not like an '85 XR 250 where you can blow gas through a straw into the inlet port and it will run lol. :D

Regarding the neutral light, you're suggesting going over the instrument panel, correct? There are a couple stupid simple things on this bike that for what ever reason I just cant figure out, I'd rather take the carbs out and clean them again than futz with the helmet lock anymore, and the neutral light is approaching that level too. Neither keep me from riding the bike, just irksome.

I'm glad to see there's another FCP fan out there, I think it's still the best NLE software.

    Thanks again.

john, check the wire that clips onto the neutral sensor for looseness or corrosion.

if you remove the wire and touch it to ground, light should come on, first test you should do b4 getting into gauge panel.

Try checking the neutral diode too. It's a little black box, that on my bikes is located under the seat, almost connected to the wiring loom. I looked at if for years never giving it a second thought, but then I bought another VF500F and it was bust. I don't think it is your problem but maybe a bad connection there...

Perfect, thank you! I always over-think and miss the obvious stuff.

So that’s what that is? I’ll take a look there too. Thanks!

Thank you @squirrelman! Wow, removed the sensor, cleaned off the post, made sure everything was moving and cleaned the wire with female connector put everything back. Stupid simple and completely resolved the issue without digging into the panel. Once again thank you for your sage advice!!! :Peace:
