Hi everyone. Last year I bought a '93 VFR750 that's mechanically sound but cosmetically challenged. The story I got is that someone backed a truck into the bike and partially ran it over. Most of the plastic was damaged in the incident and the guy I bought it from had gotten some replacement parts from various sources. This is my first VFR and when I bought it most of the fairing mounting hardware was gone and the bodywork was just held on with zip ties. I rode the bike around "naked" for a while and I REALLY like the bike. So now I've set about getting the bodywork sorted out. This has been a challenge since I don't really know what everything is supposed to look like or exactly how it goes together. I'm making progress but I've run into an issue with the rear fairings that go below the seat . I know that they're not the original parts for this bike, but they have "90-93 VFR750" written on them with sharpie. The problem is that they're interfering with the inner fender on the sides. The inner fender won't allow them to tuck into the bike properly. It seems as if there may be a compatibility problem. Like maybe there were slight differences between my bike and the bike these fairings came from. FWIW these fairings are red plastic. They fit properly in every other way and seem to be correct.
I've included a few pictures that hopefully illustrate the issue. I wanted to check with the experts before I start cutting on the inner fender. Maybe there's something obvious that I'm missing. Thanks.

90-93 are the same part except for color. The fitment looks correct. The inner fender will not fit flush to the side panels. The side panels hang below the inner fender. What is interfering and where. The side panels only attach at the front and two bolts under the back of the seat. The gaps between the sides and inner fender are normal. 90-93 was unique in the body style and is easy to recognize. they are correct for that bike. Maybe it has a different inner fender?

Good call. Turns out that my inner fender must be from a different year. I just brought home a parts bike with a blown motor that I found on CL and it has the correct inner fender and a bunch of other parts that I need. That’ll make life a lot easier.

That's one way to fix any plastic issues that may pop up. That's a hell of a find. It's safe to say ALL of that plastic is no longer available.

0730171457b.jpg 93 in pearl white is very hard to find body parts for. I would pick up a piece here and there. This summer I found a seller on ebay that bought a lot of vfr parts at an auction. He didn't sell motorcycle parts for a living so I think he did not know the value of the parts. His prices were reasonable and I ended up buying 9 pieces from him. I got both tail sides, all the tops fairings and both middle and bottom fairings For $550. Its seems like a lot but they were in good shape and better than My OE 25 year old fairings. I plan on keeping the bike so having spares seemed like a good idea. The only piece i am missing is the V in the front. Very hard to find in any color. If I crash the bike a speed I will probably not need the spares but If I tip it over in the driveway well I am all set. This winter I plan on putting the best parts on the bike and save the rest for backups. As time goes by parts will be harder and harder to find. Years ago I had a vfr1000r but the bike was so unique that parts were dam near impossible to find. It is a joy to see people saving these bike from the scrapers. The early vfr's are worth saving.
The build quality, reliability, sound and v four engine makes these bikes a must own . Long live the VFR
