    Gurus,

I'm about to pull the trigger on a replacement R/R from Roadstercycle for my '98. Three questions for those of you who have installed FH020AA already:

1A. Mounting: Did you use the Roadstercycle adaper plate? I've a test fit with the dimensions provided and it appears that I'll need to rotate the unit 90 degrees, with ports pointing forward (vs. down, as with the stock unit).

1B. If you used the adapter plate, which one (standard or 4-way)?

    2. Fin trimming: Did you need to trim any of the fins to ensure the unit fit under the bodywork?

    3. Wire lengths: It looks like the standard lengths offered from Roadstercycle (12" stator wires, 36" of red and black wiring) should be more than enough. Can you confirm these are OK or if I need the longer wires?

    TIA,
    GG

    Hi
Save your money on the mount plate. Can you drill a hole? You will need to drill a hole in the R/R mount area. Its simple. Reuse the stocker aluminum heat plate. - I would ask for 18 inch stator wires.. are you planning to solder together? You can trim the excess if needed. (Better than being short)

Here's photo of what I'm running today. -- Come winter, I plan on a clean up. btw- no fin trimming required.

Perfect - exactly the info I was looking for! I am indeed planning to solder, and yes, I'm pretty handy with a Dewalt.

Thank you. I'm now off to the Roadstercycle order page...

I’ll second the mounting method that Mello Dude did as I did the same thing. I also soldered the wires from the Stator to the RR. Good luck and let us know how it turned out.

    Team,

Belated follow-up here. Thanks for the guidance. After purchasing the R/R kit from Roadster, I followed your suggestions and it was an easy install. Finally fired up the VFR today and was happy to see that I have a solid 14.2-14.3 volts pretty much everywhere in the RPM range, regardless as to load. I haven't seen my dash and headlights this bright in ages.

    Appreciate the support!
