Putting this here as I'm not sure if certain gens have the same size. I have 8th gen. My recently installed "leakproof" seals are very not leak-proof... I went cheap and shouldn't have. Assuming it's skf or bust. But I'm open to the collective knowledge. So: What have you used, what gen, what do you think, and where did you buy them? Also, can anyone help with sizes across years?
I got some seal mate fork seal cleaners last winter but haven't had to try them yet. they are supposed to work as a lot of times dirt plugs up the seal and they leak but they are still good.
A quick run round with a sealmate to clean them up. Followed by pouring boiling water over them. Make sure you lift the dust seal first. Oem works best.
Tried seal mate originally. I had a raised chip. Have since stoned it down to a small pit. I expect that fork may leak a little. Both now both do. so I blame the cheap seals. Consensus so far is oem?
51490-MFL-003 SEAL SET, FR. FORK (retail) $16.13 online (@ Procaliber) $12.10 The f'n factory seal was only $16 retail.
Double for two, which with the f'n bushes adds up to about $40. I know. I added it up once before. I might be a cheap'a but I'm not going to half'a the job. Thanks for your help Toe Cutter. Now fink, I'm confused by boiling water. I get softening up to allow the thermoplastic properties to maybe help it seat the seal better. But I'd be afraid of getting water into the seal that I am hoping I just resealed by cleaning out debris.
Was a trick shown to me be an Honda mechanic just to do what you said. No chance of water getting past.
