Went to change my front pads this morning as they are very low. I’d bought a set of EBC FA390HH pads as they were listed for 2014-2017 models. (I bought these pads months ago and can’t return them now)
After taking the old pads out it’s obvious that these don’t fit as they don’t have slide pins, the pads are fitted with retaining lugs.

Question is, what part do I need now? I can’t find any info anywhere but the EBC FA700HH are listed for the VFR800X and look very similar.

Anyone have any ideas before I buy more pads?

I have been using the FA390HH for several years on my '14. Here is what I got, if yours don't look like this, then you got the wrong pads. As I remember, EBC catalog was confusing about the correct pads.

As you can see, they have the holes for the pins.

The cross runner takes the same pads as the Vfr The Fa700HH pads are totally different and will not fit.
FA 390HH are the correct pads which are incidentally the same pads that fir the Cbr 1000

Thanks guys but the 390HH do NOT fit and aren’t the correct pads for the 2017 model that I have. Having done my own brakes for many years I can tell the difference and, as in my OP, the pads in my bike don’t operate on sliding pins that the 390HH work off. Mine have two tabs as on the 700 HHs with no pins in the caliper. Side by side they are totally different and won’t fit!

The 700HH are listed to fit the CRF1000 AND the VFR 800 XH/XJ Crossrunner 2017-18. hence my question, will they fit the 2017-18 VFR

Ok having done a bit more research. I do apologise you are correct the pads are different compared to my 2014 bike. I was unaware of the change.

The calipers are the same on the 17/18 crossrunner so they will fit. Honda pads are HH rated but expensive. Out of interest. What mileage do you have on your bike?

I’ve done 10.5k in 13 months, at the last service the dealer advised keeping an eye on the pads as they were ‘worn’. Taking one side out today one pad was worn below the central groove and the other wasn’t far off. A bit of life left but want to get the,m done sooner rather than later.

That’s not bad going for 13 months.

I managed to get a cheap set of Honda ones from dobles from an eBay auction. Sometimes they stick stuff up at silly prices so worth keeping an eye on.

Will do. Mailed EBC this afternoon about the 700HH, see what they come back with.

Good to know, guess we just assumed Honda wouldn't make such a change. On the bright side, maybe that means Honda plans on continuing production of our beloved 8th gens. Guess we need to call them 8.1 gens.

So, EBC confirmed that the FA700s are for the 2017- VFR800F. I just wonder whether there’s any crossover which would mean that some still take the FA390s...

My apologies for misleading you, I didn't realize you guys got an updated model for 2017 on your side of the pond. We did not in the USA. Just out of curiosity is your machine still an 'RC79' or did they update the VIN to a new RC number?

My engine number starts with RC79. Not sure that it had many updates over 2016. The accessory plug in the left fairing was fitted as standard. Different exhaust end can and silver fork legs too.
Other than that it was in silver or red where I think 2016 was white, black and red.
