    Hello,

7 days ago, I checked my headlamps and lo & hi beams were working.

    2005 VFR
Today, I replaced front brake pads.
I also removed rt & lt side fairings to perform a radiator flush.
I did not work on the h/lamp / front nose fairing.
This evening I started my bike to let my son listen to the V4 and no lo-beam.
Hi-beam, t/signals, horn etc all work.

I am wondering if anyone else experienced this kind of failure after
removing the side fairings. I noticed that the harness for the switches is there.
I have a manual but before intense diagnostics I thought someone may have a simple check.
    Thanks in advance.

    UPDATE
TOOK A VOLT METER AND CHECKED VOLTAGE AT THE H/LAMP SOCKETS/PLUGS.
    12V AT BOTH H/LAMP SOCKETS/PLUGS.
SIMPLY STATED BOTH BULBS WERE BURNED.

I suspect at some point during your work pulling fairings you may have inadvertently partially disconnected one of the loom connections going to the headlamp relays. I would work backwards along the supply to the headlamps to find the fault.

You should be able to see with a torch if the low beam bulbs are properly fitted and bulb connector is in place without too much dismantling just turn the steering away to give you access to pull off the rubber cover.

Assuming bulbs are all hooked up correctly, then follow back the lo beam wire and check the lo beam relay is properly plugged in.

Finally there is a large multi-connector on the loom feed to the high and low beam relays. The low beam connections are at one end and high the other. As you say the high beam works and they share the same earth return it is just possible that connector has been disturbed and is partly loose and just needs to be firmly pushed home, to solve the problem. Finally if that does not work swap over the relays - if the problem moves to the high beams you know you have a faulty relay to replace. You can usually hear a relay working.

    Good stuff.
I saw the relays in the manual wiring diagrams as well as the loom.
I did not realize the relays were the same/interchangeable. that is a big plus.
I believe I can inspect the rear of H/Lamps without too much problem.
    Thanks again.

Good to hear that you found the problem. Do you typically keep the low beam on most of the time?

thanks for writing. it was very good to find the simple problem.
i jumped to the worst thinking 2 bulbs COULD NOT burn out in the same week. :)
to answer your question, my '05 headlamps stay on constantly so yes i keep
them on lo-beam. If there is an off - on switch let me know.
i hope this answers your question.
    tf :)

I try to use the high beams during the daylight hours in an effort to avoid the low beam filliments burning out, As a side benifit, I think the high beam makes me more visible in the day.

    That's an interesting consideration.
So trying to use them 50% less?
I have LEDs on my beemer with Clear Water running lights with Amber lens for daytime.
I've been thinking about adding some daytime running lights on the vfr. That is a little down the road.
